your the master of pulling out tired troops, rebuilding them, then putting back in the front lines. First Timor, now Burma. I bow down to your superior wisdom [&o]

Anyways, once again looks like you will have one hell of a defense waiting for 2ndACR when he comes. Let hope you don't frustrate another japanese oppenent into leaving the game, or you may have to switch sides and become a Japanese Fan Boy[:D]

LOL thanks .. and i did it all with 2 dakota and the 2 dutch transports .. also refitting are the 49th chinese div, 104th BF, 1st and 2nd Burma rifles .. All this at the expense of no supply to china mind you ,, but its more of a priority as the burma road is still open.

If japan gives you time in burma .. why not ? far better than sitting on your bum watching them slowly deplete in mandaly. as he's not even lrcapped mandalay once i suspect he has no clue im doing this.[:D]

P.S im flying them in and out of Dacca where the SE asia HQ is , so theres more than 20k supply available and plenty of support troops too.

I have never lost Mandalay in a PBEM before, lets hope the trend continues.

The added bonus of this is no extra troops need to be sent into burma so the indian sub-continent has a decent defence still available. ( I'm not bothering to reinforce Ceylon yet).

I am starting (hopefully) as game as Japan soon vs a complete newbie ( it's a training game so to speak, I'll advise him of allied moves while practising with the evil nipponese , hope i get my head around jap production as thats the real stumbling block for me ). So i may become a jap fanboy after all [:'(]

My recon in force fro ichange was repulsed at 60-1 ( full corps) he's got good troops defending the north )

also spotted was a jap convoy heading to Jahore baru .. past the singapore guns .. humm

Good news is i based some A20'a in north sumatra and the bombers from palambang joined in the fun

Japanese ground losses:
228 casualties reported EXCELLENT !

Shame they all hit the same AP ! .. otheres were attacked but missed. more LR martins based in sumatra for the beauforts ( in case it was a landing force for sumatra).

2 major ground assaults today .. both were very good for me

Ground combat at Changsha

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 257283 troops, 2860 guns, 33 vehicles

Defending force 144758 troops, 849 guns, 0 vehicles

Attacking force 104581 troops, 637 guns, 109 vehicles

Defending force 62341 troops, 272 guns, 15 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 7)

Japanese ground losses:
1177 casualties reported
Guns lost 19
Vehicles lost 4

Allied ground losses:
906 casualties reported
Guns lost 32

the 5k recent supply helped massively .. i only have 6k there now.

forts held in both places.

Other news . I have almost completely evacuated the defeated rabaul garrison befor he forced a surrender, from 1 BF and 2 inf units only 23 damaged support troops are left, the rest ( ALL ) have been evaced by large sub transports to townsville. Thats a few points saved in the long run.

the REF in Burma is now capping mandaly with 100 a/c and 32 LR cap from Imphal. only a big sweep will hurt me here now and i have seen a lot of zero activity elsewhere in the pacific.

One more thing ,, I NEED more transports ! .. really i'm missing the huge lift capacity and the ability to do everything i want to do ( i.e working as designed there Nik).

bye bye

31st March , Time for a Review after a few AAR's

Several allied attacks on the AP group retreating from Johore Baru

this was the best !

Day Air attack on TF at 22,50

Blenheim IV x 9
Martin 139 x 17

Unfortuantely he wasnt distracted enough to let an AK unload in singapore

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 9
G4M1 Betty x 18

No Japanese losses

Allied Ships
AK Tjikandi, Torpedo hits 4, on fire, heavy damage BOOM ,, SANK

ASW in the pacific today .. NE of Pago Pago, very close to the aukland bound convoy routes

And a dismal Chinese Effort in the north , river crossing

Allied Shock attack

Attacking force 9360 troops, 71 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 4874 troops, 38 guns, 0 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 0 to 1

Japanese ground losses:
81 casualties reported
Guns lost 3

Allied ground losses:
416 casualties reported
Guns lost 8

Useless ! .. good C/O , rested .. BAH .. who cares its in the middle of nowhere anyway.

Total Losses as its the end of the month ..

Well to prove that its been a very quiet month I'll only post the increases that have been sunk this past 31 days.

Allies 7 AK's
Subs 1 dutch boat

Japan 1 AK
Japan 9 AP .. great
Japan 1 TK.

Thats it for 31 days combat ! ..

Scots been saying he;s upto something new in this game and the AP's from the initial invasions are ready to go again. humm where and with what though ? untill singapore or Manilla fall he's a bit short on troops for anything major. ANy ideas anyone ?

Midway/johnson/palmyra/canton/pago/ththingy/suva/noumea all now garissoned , regimental minimum. CD and AA where available.

He's stared he doesn't want the north, cant blame him its pointless. Australia ? maybe .. i'm not weak here though, PM has had a new aussie brigade added just for fun [:D]. and N australia now has some dakotas uncrating at derby for use in Timor, supply, fast response/evac etc.

India has everything assigned to it and burma is getting better with the rebuilt troops. chinas a bit of a stalemate right now, whats left ? Luganville proabably as its my weakest area. 2nd USMC about 1 week from noumea though with a ton of supply. And the americal half way across the pacific.

winston got on the blower again today demanding a BB and 2 DD's .. fine Royal soverign is surplus and i've got 4 old S Class DD's heading back from australia as i dont want to send home the electras or the radar equipped P class. Next time he rings i might argue with him though.

Sorry no piccie i overwrote it by mistake ..

any thoughts anyone ?

That was an excellent turn [:D] You asked if anyone has any thoughts ---> well fortunes seem to be with the allies on this one [;)]

Royal Sovereign is expendable BB as you said. Winston demanded 1 CV in my game and I told him to forget it [:D] Now I have - 700 PP [:D][:D]

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/02/42

april .. 1 less on the zeros bonus .. and some action

Looks like we can both play the mine game

TF 1064 encounters mine field at Andaman Island (23,34)

Allied Ships
AK Gran, Mine hits 1, on fire, heavy damage

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TF 42 encounters mine field at Saigon (31,46)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TF 44 encounters mine field at Menado (39,67)

Japanese Ships
MSW Toshi Maru #7
MSW Takasago Maru
MSW Bisan Maru
AP Nichiran Maru, Mine hits 1, on fire

AK Gran is a mess .. only 2.5 k to start she lost 2000 supply with the hit and will in all probablility sink .. i really miss o19+o20 .. Nik .. thats your fault [:@][:D]. there 2 are cursed . now both lost the AA guns too .. using them as second rate sub transports now , such a shame .

I had another pop at pagan and no japs interfered

Day Air attack on Pagan , at 31,31

Allied aircraft
B-26B Marauder x 33

No Allied losses

Airbase supply hits 4
Runway hits 7

I'm 1/2 expecting a huge japanese sweep on mandalay soon .. might take the sensible course and evac in a day or so.

I did an AVG ambush in china today .. 1st went well, apart from the uber Oscar !

Day Air attack on 64th Chinese Corps, at 40,38

Japanese aircraft
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 25
Ki-51 Sonia x 72
Ki-46-II Dinah x 1

Allied aircraft
P-40B Tomahawk x 30

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-43-Ib Oscar: 5 destroyed, 1 damaged
Ki-51 Sonia: 10 destroyed, 21 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
P-40B Tomahawk: 3 destroyed, 6 damaged

Allied ground losses:
7 casualties reported

2nd attack was far worse

Day Air attack on 64th Chinese Corps, at 40,38

Japanese aircraft
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 27
Ki-44-IIb Tojo x 4
Ki-48 Lily x 18
Ki-46-II Dinah x 1

Allied aircraft
P-40B Tomahawk x 13

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-43-Ib Oscar: 1 destroyed, 1 damaged
Ki-48 Lily: 1 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
P-40B Tomahawk: 7 destroyed OUCH

none in the pool either . i'll have to save P40'e's and swop out an B group on the west coast. unfortaunately i've been using the E's to make up some indian based PI evacuees .. have over 100 P40E's in calcutta alone .

The recent jap troops unloading at JB arived in singapore today and the river crossing was easy for them

Ground combat at Singapore

Japanese Shock attack

Attacking force 99846 troops, 673 guns, 6 vehicles

Defending force 60414 troops, 245 guns, 13 vehicles

Japanese assault odds: 0 to 1 (fort level 7)

Japanese ground losses:
373 casualties reported
Guns lost 6

Allied ground losses:
385 casualties reported
Guns lost 6

although i still think that they should cros with no penalty once sufficient force is available on the other side , other than that i like the river assault rules.

OT - I just started my very first japanese PBEM ! and its damn scary and so much to do 1st turn . I did a manilla 1st strike for a change and killed 12 named ( ie not s class) 1st turn . nice .. BUT about 5 invasions failed to move ! ??? I really need to learn japan more . Its a test game anyway . unless its too much fun to put down. [:D]

I am not planning a 2nd AAR as its too time consuming, I might if the game gets interesting and we are further along . everyone does a japan 1st turn AAR .. and they are a bit tedious sometimes. I like speedy and fabertongs approach of starting an AAR if the situation becomes less 'normal'.

anyway .. end of turn and of day .. night all

I think you did a grand job with the oscar, i'm looking forward to seeing how it fares in my jap game [:D].

I dont think theres any one area on your mod that needs changing. except possibly too much supply in china, reason being you no longer need to build many forts any more. but thats just my opinion not a rationally calculated supply equivalence exercise [:D]

I Smell a rat here ..

TF 18 troops unloading over beach at Nukufetau island, 87,103

Very low troops suggest a small force. I have moved 96 ! yep 96 B17's to canton
as its just in range (13).. Need to rest for 2-3 days , but i am not letting him
build up an sirfield here.

CV hornet is in Canton ,, shall i sortie ? humm the pby/coronado net completely missed
him coming and i suspect a large CV force lurking nearby.

Making room for the B17's . 64 mitchells move to pago and 16 bostons in tungthinghy.

Heres a taste of singapore Flak .. nice ..

another AK 2 days out now . fingers crossed.

I havnt gone near that atoll yet, and no b17 launches either. So im still in the dark, ive sailed the hornet and escorts out of canton, its too badly protected if he comes calling with a major port strike.

Also in the news the final PH BB's will be escorted by the new CVL long island for thier slow trip back stateside.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/06/42

0 supply simply means that the LCU's fight at 25% their normal strength. When you have a good number of them concentrated combined with fort levels + urban defense bonus, they won't fall over like nine-pins. You still have to wear them down. Might be time for a shock attack.

He;s lost too many engineers for that i think. the naga woods defence really hammered 3 divisions , completely disabling all the engineers. and he's not been able to replece them given the circumstances.

And if i do suicide , ill have the moral high ground [;)]

I don know....if ever there is a safe time to shock attack, its against an unsupplied opponent. the casualties he's taking are not too much greater than yours. (vs. like say oh....20000 to 1000 like i suffered recently against one that was in supply)

besides if his engineers are disabled, he'll need to shock to bring down the forts.

He's going to have a whirl next turn , i hope it doesn't cripple his forces ( well i do but it may wreck the game ) ..

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 04/12/42

1st Japanese airfield attack on sumatra , the AA was brutal

Day Air attack on Palembang , at 20,55

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 24
G4M1 Betty x 46
Ki-46-II Dinah x 4

Allied aircraft
no flights

Japanese aircraft losses
G4M1 Betty: 4 destroyed, 16 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
Blenheim IV: 1 destroyed

Runway hits 8

I've thought up a new tactic for the LR a/c in sumatra. Bombing the resources in malaysia. the A20's based at bulla ? <sp> .. north sumatra can hit the big one in kuala lumpur .. i doubt he's capped them.

I'm starting to use PP's to get the decent fighters (p40's) from the american coast to the south pacific. along with more AV support .. heading to pago for refuelling then possibly base in suva.

North pac is dead as a doornail. not enough transports to do anything here.

He';s started reconing luganville .. i'm gathering APD's in noumea for fast transport and try and get some engineers and a CD unit in first. ( i've poached 2 from tazmania ).

My minelaying ops have to be curtailed rapidly .. Kates based in West borneo are too dangerous

Day Air attack on TF at 23,66

Japanese aircraft
A6M2 Zero x 16
B5N Kate x 24
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 14

Allied aircraft
CW-21B Demon x 5
Brewster 339D x 7

Japanese aircraft losses
B5N Kate: 1 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
CW-21B Demon: 5 destroyed
Brewster 339D: 5 destroyed

Allied Ships
ML Krakatau, Bomb hits 4, on fire, heavy damage Will Sink
DD Kortenaer, Bomb hits 2, on fire
ML Prins van Oranje

Oh well , it has meant a lot of mines around soerbaja/kragen and bali ..

also the allies fight back in the PI !

Ground combat at Roxas

Allied Deliberate attack

Attacking force 2412 troops, 8 guns, 0 vehicles

Defending force 0 troops, 0 guns, 0 vehicles

Allied assault odds: 11 to 1 (fort level 0)

Allied forces CAPTURE Roxas base !!!

I was hopeing he'd left some supply here but only 1/2 dozen tins of rice and an old saki bottle was all that was found .. oh well looks like they'll starve after all. nowt i can do.

Yet another big RAF AV unit in karachi .. i really dont need it in india/burma so ive decided to sent it to australia -- Derby if i can as im short on AV support both here and in darwin.

Another wee trick .. IL4's flying anti shipping strikes 20% search and exp at least 70 some over 80. i'm hopeing to hit a few transports maybe even a tanker or 2 [:D]

China is a stalemate everywhere which is exactly what i want . the chinese armour is heading north to try and hurt the mongolian cav and maybe harass the north/rear bases .. anything to make him garrison them adequately.

In burma its quiet ,, BUT ive lost another inf unit ( 2nd burma rifles). there is a /1 fragment that i cant select but looks like it has troops in it. I'm airlifting it back to mandalay. most annoying as i'd already lost the 17th ind infantry. Even being very careful with air transport doesn't work as advertised. I think i'll have to leave a small portion behind and then send them overland to join up as its the very last fragment the seems to cause this problem. V V annoying .

I'm cooking up a plan for the S Pacific .. I'll elaborate later on when i have the units in place , it's not a big op but it might be dangerous and does not require CV's ..

Thats about it for now , middle of april and japan has stalled, looking rather good. I'm sure he's not going to be able to invade india given the delay but N australia might be a target but i've got quite a few aussie inf units in place . Havnt stripped the south or east BUT I'd be very suprised if he tried to invade sydney [;)]

and the shock attack at manilla was a disaster for japan

Although singapore went better for him
