Computer overrides Player Selection

Post by solops »

Why does the AI replace my halfback in SOME formations after a few plays? I have to save the game. Enter the depth chart, re-assign him and then re-start the game. Then, in a posession or two I have to do it again.

What is going on?

Are you setting your substitutions to be global?

Global? I am using the Depth Chart screen accessed through the League/team/ menu found on the Main Menu page. I go through every formation and assign the the players I want. The I re-load a saved game or start a new game from the league schedule screen.

The "Global" selection is from the In-game player assignment option when selecting plays, yes? I usually do not use that. I have tried it with and without the Global box checked. It makes no difference. My chosen player stays at that position for a few plays or series and is then replaced. Odd though, the problem only seems to happen with my halfback and, rarely with a defensive lineman. And my HB selection is not replaced in all of the formations. I have never had any of my LB, OL, DB, QB, etc selections change.

This is not a new problem. I have had this problem since the game came out, in several leagues.

Same thing happens to me. Everyone shifts around by position. My last league game the backup QB came in and completed a few passes in a row. I went into in ingame depth cart (made sure it was global) and replaced the starter with him. The 2 would replace each other sometimes only for 1 play. This is with the 106 patch.

In a game before this patch it the QB got injured for a few plays. After the starter and backup QB replaced each other the rest of the game, however it they would switch by formation. The first QB played in shotgun and pro formation, the backup played the rest.

hope this helps and makes sense... I am not done my first coffee.

I have had the same problem - even when clicking the golbal box. Sometimes it works other times the player who I took out is in the lineup when back to the field view. I used to try to pick the formation first then make the substitution and still had problems - though I don't recall whether I was using global then or not.[&:]

I have seen the problem, it seems to happen (to me, anyway) when the quarterback is injured. The game replaces the injured quarterback with the quarterback who was originally in the depth chart (even though he is injured as well, and there is another uninjured quarterback on the roster). When that happens, all of the formations that had the quarterback who was just injured revert to the original depth chart, at all positions. I just played a game where I had no injuries, and the game didn't do any substitutions, so I'm thinking that it is an injury that triggers this.

AHA!!! I think you have hit it! I'll start watching this closer.

Breeze:
This is correct. I just played a game where the opposing QB was hurt, but just a minor injury. After that point, some formations had the starting QB, some formations had the backup. The weird thing is, this happened to my team also, even though my quarterback wasn't hurt. I'll bet it's because both teams used the same playbook.
