My two hot buttons

Post by Deft »

Alright, I have made playbooks, plays, leagues, uniforms etc.. and I feel like I have a pretty good handle on the game. I can overlook these issues-

Replay and Camera Angle for better coaching- Irritating but not a deal breaker
Stat issues and calculations- At this point those issues are backburner compared to in-game issues. Fix the PDS and AI and these can follow.
Arcade Issues- Why would anyone buy this game to run arcade? That's like buying NFL Blitz for the authenticity.
Freeze ups or lockups- Never had any

So that brings us to the two things that drive me crazy-

1) Defensive pass coverage- The defense largely ignores everyone but the First and Second WRs. This makes pass plays either easy or hard depending on who you are throwing too. It makes plays over the middle impossible for receivers and passing to TEs unfair. The defense can only play zone to accomidate and cannot define zones leaving gaps or ambiguous responsibilities. These are the pass play show stoppers and what will prevent anyone from starting a league online with anything but a run heavy league.

2) Passing logic- QBs will only scramble if they have exceeded their time limit in the read command with no receiver looking. If a receiver is looking he will throw it regardless of coverage this results in incompletions and interceptions. With any slow timing pass plays the QB has no safety valve and has to stand in a wait command until the receiver is in position to look for the ball. Some type of safety valve option and possible refinement to the pass read logic would really help this. This issue seems to be a big part of the sack issue.

Aside from these issues I am really enjoying the game and wouldn't be contributing so much if this was as bad as some wished it was. The run game is great and the flexibility is really enjoyable. If the PDS and the AI logic could get fixed I think the community could get this to a great level of fun.

Why would anyone buy this game to run arcade?

Because some of us like to be able to have full control of what happens on the field, as well as off. [:)] MaxFB is the most complete game for that as well IMO.

Yeah AI needs a little work too but for league play it won't be a big issue for me [8D]

Never had any freeze ups or lock ups here either Image

I agree totally about the pass coverage in the game, not sure if if you misspoke, but the man to man coverage is not just for the 2 WR. If you give man to man coverage the DB play the outside reciever on either side man to man. I found when creating a twin or slot type formation with the TE on one side and the two WR on the other, that the TE will have man coverage, and the outside WR on the other side will have man, but the inside WR like the TE in a flanker type formation, cannot have a defender covering him man to man. So with a formation with 4 WR, two SE and two Slots, then the slots cannot be covereded man to man.

Downloaded the latest beta and worked with the PDS for awhile. Its going to take some thought on how to best set up the defense, but I do like being able to get m2m coverage on all recievers. The main problem now is how using the aline on and m2m commands can alter the whole defensive set up. Also the new camera angles work very nice, Im posting two using one of the new ones, it lets you see pass coverages alot better. That brings up the only negative. Back when the game first came out I designed a play with a FL in motion that beat the defense everytime. I decided to try that play vs the new defense I set up using the new m2m coverages. The assignments all work well, the DB assigned to the motion man followed him in motion, but then things broke down. On the snap of the ball the DB kind of freezes or gets tangled with other defensive players. And the FL seems to get a great burst of speed. The result is that the FL easily gets behind the defense, as shown in the two screen shots. Im going to have to work on the DB(s) deep zone coverage, it take him to long to get to the deep zone, so will probablly move him back.

I let 2 games play out
and they are low scoring 3-0 and second game halfway thru the 3rd quarter on the second game 7-0.
maybe it's because of the improvements on the defensive logic
dunno for sure

To your first question Erik, Thank you, Thank you, Thank you. This is almost a new game. So far these two concerns have been addressed, (maybe the QB is a little jumpy in the pocket but I think this can be tweaked instead of revised like it just was).
