Key On

Post by Deft »

David, Could you give us a little insight into how the Key On command works. I believe it has to be the first command in the after snap sequence, but could you have Line Up before it? Is Key On the last command in the sequence? I did some minor play testing am I having a hard time figuring it out.

[line up on] and [key on] are distinct in that [line up] only lines the player up against another player. What happens afterwards is handled by the remainder of the commands. You could line up on a player and then blitz.

[Line Up On] should be the first command of the first command point. You can put your remainder comands as normal. Lining up on a specific man may cause the defender to have to cross the whole length of the field before he gets to the man he needs to line up on. Right now the command is processed once everyone is up over the LOS. It would be better if the command was processed as the defenders are breaking the huddle and that's something I'm trying to implement at the moment.

[key on] is different. It doesn't matter where you line up but it should be somewhere in the first command point. So you can have [line up on] and then [key on] with out problem (at least that's the way it should work..it's still a work in progress at this point). [key on] will tell the defender to stick to the keyed player as long as they're behind the LOS and go into M2M coverage as soon as they cross the LOS. Or, they're the ball carrier behind the LOS they'll try to make the play.
