Keith (IJN) versus Jack (Allied)--Allied View

Post by joliverlay »

Since Keith and I are going to do separate reports, and since our titles made it hard to see which thread was Allied and which was IJN, I'm continuing from 12/9/41 here.

Keith is not reading so I can report top secret stuff.

December 8th showed only a fighter sweep over Pearl Harbor as he moved west towards Japan. Ive started four TFs from the US.

1. A regimental combat team and CD to one of the secondary airfields near Pearl.
2. A CD and or engineer (when available) each to Palymeria, Johnson, and Canton.
3. Ive dispatched the small units at Darwin to Nomea, I'm also sending APs to Somoa to move a NZ Brigade to Nomea.
4. Both CV TFs are headed to Nomea.

I've managed to move most of the Ships from Manila out to sea steaming at Max Speed to Java. I'm forming all land units in PI into Manila, Clark, and Battan. The Air unit at Manila is set to 1000 feet to bomb AKs and APs. Interesting when set to 100 feet I got many hits with cannon and no damage from flack. Something wrong (are the AKs/APs unarmed). I'll try 1000 feet in the hopes that I also drop some bombs, and that the AA works properly. (I don't like to take advantage of bugs.) Does anybody thing 40 P40s in multiple attacks at 100 ft should have lost something to AA??

Keith is sending some of his AKs and APs to empty airfields to sieze them, but he is not escorting them. I managed break out PTs from a group escaping form Manila and to use the 3DDs runing from Hong Kong to engange two unescorted transport groups. While the game mechanics limit how much damage I can do to the lone transports, it will still force him to escort his taskforces.

I think he is sending another TR TF to north Java, so I'm moving a 2CD 2DD TF to the port I think he is headed to. I've got a few buffalos overhead for minimal air support. Will see what happens.

I'm moving APs to LA to pick up 40th Division and 2ed Marine.

Detailed losses are below if your interested. Not much action aside from the small battles with the unescorted transports.

Looks like he got his troops off before you hit his taskforces.

December 12, 1941

Not much action in the Pacific Theater. A large number of subs have been sighted around Pearl Harbor. I expect they are looking for cripples headed to US ports. I'll keep the cripples in port and create a couple of 5DD or DMS TFs for ASW. With 6 subs per hex spotted next to Pearl I shoud bag one or two.

I'm getting ready to load the 41st Inf. to move to Pearl to Increase the Garrison to 3 Divisions. The 2ed Marine will head to Ackland. That is also were I will move the South Pacific HQ shortly.

I've not got small TFs at most of the big ports in the DEI area. Not enought to stop anybody except transport TFs, but it will keep him from sending unescorted TFs.

I'm also moving Force Z and the US CA/CLs near Java into safe waters behind the front as a moble force. If his air recon is bad he may mistakenly belive they are dispersed in the small forces.

I'm ommitting a post of the combat report since it was not terribly interesting.

We made it to Jan 1, 42 with minimal action aside from ANOTHER AIR RAID ON PEARL HARBOR. Just a fighter sweep. I've landed small forces on Johnson, Christmas, and Nomea, as well as another full division on Pearl Harbor. The CVs are well hidden along ways away.

I've also managed to keep all ship movements except Dutch out of his spotting range driving him crazy.

Well, the bad news is the AAR is ending. My opponent reports he is unexpectedly tied up at home and work and does not have time to continue. Thanks for reading. I'll look for another game soon. Maybe multiplayer. I can't manage land forces in China worth anything.
