Well, its time for round two in this epic struggle. Im the allies as usual, and 2ndACR takes the Imperial side.

Anyway, Ive been looking forward to round two against 2ndACR, you can find the AAR of our first round here tm.asp?m=685450

This time we are playing Niks scenario v 5.0.

The game starts with the usual port strike at Manilla.

To be honest, this is the most sensible tactic for the Japanese player in my opinion. The reason for this:
1) The Japanese player can effectively remove the submarine threat to his SLOCs during the early game.

2) It puts the KB right in the thick of the action on turn 1. Instead of being lost at sea for a week doing a speed run from PH back to Tokyo, it starts right in the middle of everything.

3) The Vals actually do some damage to the ships at anchor at Manilla...much more effective use than to have their bombs harmlessly bounce off the BBs at Pearl.

4) Less losses to the KB airwings.

The port strike was devastating as usual.

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 12/11/41

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Day Air attack on Manila , at 43,52

IJN returns to Manila to finish off the burning hulks that remain in the harbor. I have not even tried to run with these ships, most of them are at 50+ sys and flt, and I dont think any sane captain would try to make it across an ocean with a ship in that condition. Those that could leave have left already, but I only managed to save a handful of ships from Manila.

My dear Pzjg Hortlund & Mr 2ndACR:

I have just finished reading your earlier AAR using Lemur's mod. I enjoyed it thoroughly!

I am looking forward to seeing you both in action using Nik's Mod.

Good hunting to you both!

Hi PjH (easier to type than your full name[:D])

Im in a nik mod game with 2ndACR. looks like he learnt a few things ( he did a pearl in our game, utter waste imo). That was a bad a$$ strike on manilla port.. did any subs survive ?.

He's very very good at closing down waterways and wrecking allied CAP ( watch out for random fighter sweeps).

I wish you the best of luck [8D]

P.S .. Natalie Portman HUMMM Hornylichious ..
sorry for the spelling . English is my main language , I just can't type . and i'm too lazy to edit :)

PZ H,
I am glad to see this AAR. I have started two PBEM's after a year against the AI, both as the Allies. The first which is at the end of 12/41 uses 1.795 with a non-historical 1st turn which ended up with KB being 3 hexes to the "east" of Manila. Most of my sub fleet and other ships got wiped out. [X(] i have all of the USA Pacific fleet and have my CV's in route after upgrades to F4F's.

The second is using the Nik Mod like you (1eyed jack don't read!!) and have KB staying off of PH for one week and have lost 5 BB's completely and 1 CA. Don't know what I could have done differently.

Playing two games with two different mod's is confusing.[&:] The reduced supply (especially in India) and in receiving heavy bombers slowly - example: 5 LB-30's per month...

Hopefully, we can compare "war stories" [:D]

Not sure if I can post here yet, but oh well, one will not hurt. We had a dual AAR last time, so we will see if I get in trouble.

Rob,
Manila was always my primary strike, I went after PH only to try one more time to see if it would do any good. And the answer was.....................nope, not a bit of good.

Since this is round 2 between us, we shall see how this one goes. I have some new tricks up my sleeve this time.[:D]

Thanks. We both enjoyed the earlier game and aar. I think we both made some rookie misstakes that time that will not happen again this time around. As you can see though, Im already improvising new ways to screw up and lose my own ships [8D]

I think I got 4 subs out of Manilla. Two with damage. Two undamaged. Of those two, one was sunk a couple of days later while attacking Japanese shipping in the Aparri-area.

RE: Pzjg Hortlund vs 2nd ACR -round two

Post by ny59giants »

I have learned to dispatch the heavily armoured CL's from Pearl (Helena and 2 Brooklyn class CL's) with a few destroyers ASAP to the South Pacific and other classified areas (there are Japanese players who read this post after all [:-][:-]). They are a handfull for most Jap CL's and have good record against lightly guarded invasion TF's.

Good Hunting!![&o]
