Maximum football error

Post by verga111 »

Hi, everytime I try to start my Maximum Football game, I get a "runtime 91 error" object varialbe, or with block variable not set. I have installed the latest patch, and updated drivers...still no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This sounds like you're not installing the full game. Does the play designer and utilities work? If not, then parts of the game were definately not installed properly.

I actually installed the game itself, the direct x and all compoents including the update...would there be a reason something got left out? Thanks.

I had the same problem happen to me. You can find the thread below about Initial Installation RTE's.

The only thing that worked to fix my problem was to re-install Windows XP (assuming that's the OS you're using) over itself. It corrected whatever problem there was without screwing up any of my existing settings or applications.

That happens with Windows 98 from time to time as well. Some .dll and other files get corrupted, so a fresh install needs to be made. This isn't a problem with Maximum-Football. Windows is a mess.

I also get the runtime error 91 with the new patch. If I reinstall the 1.0.122 version the game runs fine.

Can't really see why it is a windows problem if 1.0122 runs fine???

Mistermod,

That's new and very odd - this is the latest beta you're talking about, right? Can you post a DxDiag file please? The beta does replace some of the registered files and while there have been no problems in testing, there may be an installer issue we missed that came up on your system. If so, I'd definitely like to resolve it before the official release.

Regards,

Hi there

To Mr Winter

The game ver 10131 brings up

run time error 91 Object variable or with block variable not set

The PDS brings up

run time error 429 Active X component can't create, the pds is then visible but nothing works.

The utility set brings up the same as the pds above, it also loads, but nothing happens when you try to load or edit anything.

I then re-install ver 10122 and everything works fine.

Did you get the dxdiag okay?

Hope that helps...cheers

This sounds like DBEngine.dll is not being registered. Please try this.

From the start menu select 'Run' and in the text field presented type;

regsvr32.exe c:\<program path>\DBEngine.dll

replace <program path> with the fully qualified path where you intall the game to. I think it's normally C:\matrix\maximum-football but you may have changed that. You should receive a message along the lines of "DBEngine.dll" successfully registered (or words to that effect).

Hmm okay...

Can you use windows explorer to go to the folder you installed the game to and tell me if DBEngine.dll is even there..

No you can't do that. The DBEngine.dll that is shipped with each build is matched to the executibles that are provided with that build. You can't mix and match them. They won't work.

You need to install all the executables and dbengine.dll form the latest build as a whole.

I only tried that a few moments ago and it was only just to try.

Heres another thing I just did. I re-installed the game from fresh into a different directory and tested each install as I went, they all worked fine till 10131.

The game loaded every time from the new directory until I put on ver 10131 then the run time error came up.

I also left the 10122 version in it's original directory. So I basically had the game installed twice in differnet directories.

I then tried running the 10122 ver from the old directoy and it boots up fine every time.

I would have expected all versions to crash if it was me just ruining things, but it is only whent I get to v10131 that the game refuses to load.

Gotta dash now as I have a film to watch, but I'll check back later to see what you think.

Cheers for now

Just watched King Kong...........WOW! anyway I digress

So here is where I am at the mo'

I have a fold [Matrix Games] with an install of v10122 and it plays fine.

I also have a folder [Matrix] with an install of v10131 and this version brings up the runtime '91' error

No point in mixing the dbengine.dll anymore because as you pointed out it makes no difference.

Fianlly I tried again the regsvr32.exe C:\Matrix\Maximum-Football\DBEngine.dll [for the 10131 version]

and got this message 'dllregisterserver in c:\matrix\maximum-football\dbengine.dll failed. return code was 0x80004005

hope that helps
