Computer Controlled Areas

Post by Mart777 »

I am more adept at the smaller scale of Uncommon Valor and have begun to try my hand at WITP.

I like to play the full war scenario but limit myself to control of one area. I usually try the Australia, New Guinea and Coral Sea area to minic my UV play or the West Coast out to Wake Island area.

What sort of defence does the AI put up, it seems to leave shipping sitting in port to scuttle when the base is lost. The manual says the AI will control all assets including shipping.

Should I become more active with the ships attacking or running South to Australia as need be or would that be akin to cheating. The loss of so much shipping seems needless but the computer control seems to allow it to happen with no attempt to fight back.

The manual puts forward ideas such as only controlling the British forces with the rest under AI control, has anyone tried this and has the AI took the fight to the enemy. It plays well enough against me as the Japanese will it give me support if I only control one region.

Using the AI to control areas leads to bugs that will frustrate you more than trying to control it all yourself.
There are only two kinds of people that understand Marines: Marines and the enemy. Everyone else has a second-hand opinion.

Agreed the bugs caused by turning on computer control in a theater are significant and worse pervasive. It can cause problems with units in human controlled theaters and these problems can persist even after human control has been restored. Start your games controlling all theaters and keep it that way.

The AI tends to move slow in the boring theaters anyway, like china and alasska.

As the Allies the AI can be trusted to do precious little in China so you can let it have that pretty safely. The Japanese AI usually treats China as a backwater theater anyway. Putting the British under AI control usually results in the Prince of Wales and Repulse sitting idly at Singapore until Yamashita's troops are practically tapping on the hull. It's performance in other critical theaters isn't much better.

The sharks around here that post can be very nice. It's the ones who don't, but post challenges for games are the ones you have to worry about.
