serioulsy, do you have speciality in your degree? In our country Arhaelogicy is quite difficult for studing - 4 years and you have to learn all from Stone age to middle age. It is quite depressing when you trying to remember all stone age cultures...

What the heck is Atlantida? Do you mean Atlantis? If so it is a myth probably based upon the Cretan civilization (so called palace-civ) which was destroyed around 12 century BC by the enormous volcano eruption on the island of Santorini (also a Cretan center).

If you talk about degrees I am about to get my first at the age 34+ from -guess what- history.

Your boasts have long since lost all credibility. It's roughly on the par with Nikboy's insistence that he's a good WitP player...[:'(]

Damn, sorry... i used croatian word for Atlantis....

now than you've mentioned Crete - aurochs was first domesticated at this island (one more irrelevant fact[:)]), but you should accuse Andy for that - he sent me wrong file and i'm bored....

It was a 3 year degree over here.

1st years you study across the board from Pre-history right up to modern stuff - Archaeological Science (RC dating, Dendrochronology etc), theories etc etc

2/3 years you specialise in whatever you wish + some mandatory not so good stuff.

For example.

2nd years I focussed on Early and Later Medieval England.

Went on a dig for a mnonth to Roman Silchester. Very interesting stuff.

Also took a course in Metallurgy and with a blacksmith made weapons etc. Nice[8D]

3rd year was more specific. I focussed on Burial Archaeology and Town and Country in Medieval England.

My Thesis was on "Anglo-Saxon defences against Vikings". Basically I looked at the historical and archaeological evidence for these defences and to see how much was inferred from the Burghal Hidage against how much wasactually known on the ground.

Quite interesting. In short a lot of what we assume is inferred from the Burghal Hidage. About 1/4 of the Burghs have never even been properly located/found for example.

Also compared the defences to those in the Netherlands - Burgs.

Hi Pauk,

No not really. Are you thinking of King Alfred? There is differing speculation on King Arthur.

Firstly, if he even existed.

Secondly, if so in what form - King? Local Lord?

I for one dispute a lot of the fables and myths around it. If he did exist I think he was probably more of a local lord/hero type person.

One of the specualtion's is that Tintagel Castle was his ruling home. Little evidence for this really though.

In short no evidence for Round Table. Sword in the Stone etc. Let alone a lot of the characters in the myth.

Good story though and I liked Excalibur the film (1981 as it?)

Understood Pauk. Not a lot of physical evidence for this though.

Damn. It is gone.

So to sum it up quickly.
1. Artur's 'knights' -in reality heavy cavalry with lances- were sarmatians recruited in Pannonia.
2. The legend of Excalibur comes also probably with them since it was not a custom (before or after) to stick a sword into the ground marking the place of the funeral celebration (not the tomb itself) except between 2nd and 10th century AD in the steppes.
