Umm what is the time frome of this release
In game terms I mean.
Is it like TOAW I covering mostly WWII or is it like TOAW II covering most of the later time frame or is it a mix ?
If it is time frame one will it PLEASE get rid of the rediculous need for Air missions to be launched every combat round ?
I liked TOAW II's air combat better when air combat is much more constrained and limited to just ordered missions.

TOAW 3 is based on TOAW Century of Warfare.
I believe that the timeframe is 1850 to 2010.

TOAW doesn't really have such a tightly defined timeframe. TOAW originally seems to have been designed around Normandy and Korea. The further you get from those types of conflicts, the more simulation will decay. So the Second World War works great. The First World War is mostly OK but with some quirks. One can do the American Civil War- after a fashion, and with a great deal of effort on the part of the designer.

I never enjoyed the hypothetical modern conflicts as much (some Arab-Isareli battles were good though) but WW2/Korea period. I still enjoy the Normandy scenario.

They just tend to be too contrived. "OK, this and this and this happen and so now France is invading America. OK?"
Back in the good old days, the world was much more volatile and hypotheticals are easier to come by. Poland really could have taken it upon itself to smite Germany in 1934, etc.

I think it can be done, the question in my mind is more how do you make it fun?ORIGINAL: golden delicious

Something like the entire war in Iraq (including the peace) with decisions about whether to destroy infrastructure and raise the number of guerillas, or risk the longer war, and having more casualties.
It's getting out of the operational realm, but I still think it would be fun to try to model someday.
Also, how do you make a game that has forces of dissimilar sizes still fun to play? How do you play the guerrilla side?

With that kind of game, though, the TOAW engine would be more of an obstacle than an asset. The main part of the game- the various options you describe- would be easier to just code in a new system rather than trying to use the event engine.

Curt Chambers' Campaign for South Vietnam is a pretty well-made study of guerrilla war.

Turn 26 - Poland is hanging on (barely), along with Turkey and the Nordic countries. France took out Spain (with Brit Armor), and is moving to the Balkans to shore up the Rumanians.ORIGINAL: golden delicious

I think the entry of the US will change things, but.....
There are times I really hate pushing the Turn flag button... those Commie divisions are monsters....I can only wonder(fear?) how the new AI will work this scenario...

To clarify, I wasn't speaking about this scenario, but in general, it's more aggressive on the attack.ORIGINAL: ralphtrick

No Kidding!
I remember when I first started playing TOAW and played the original Barbossa scenario. I has having trouble with it, so once I put it on computer vs computer. The darn AI Blitzkrieg on the Russians in the first couple turns was amazing to watch.
Don't think I can match that level of destruction.

Interesting to hear back from this. I never got to test the scenario as much as I would've liked.

Dumb question, but I see the ground units rebuild - do the air ones do likewise? Somehow, I lost a Luftwaffe fighter group that has not rebuilt.
Seems we've settled into fortified lines outside Warsaw, reaching south towards the Black Sea. Turkey seems to be stabilized, and, I'm actually pressing the Artic front (with the help of the Canuks). Supply there, is the issue.

I don't think anything's set not to reconstitute. Units in TOAW reconstitute if there are enough replacements for two-thirds of the top item in the TO&E. It might be that the relevant aircraft is no longer receiving replacements. This is a problem in scenarios with mixed air units.

I got it back - seems production on the HE-112 ended, and it was waiting on the ME-109'(Late). I see its back, ramping up....
Its turn 40-ish, the CCCP is pushing thru the Rom/Hun mountains after a lackluster winter of digging in. Eastern Europe must look like France 1917 by now, but with plenty of armor.
I just wonder when the Ivan's are gonna do a steamroller with those large (combat value) divisions...
Its a stalemate in the North - both Sweden and Norway have ebbed the CCCP forces, with help from the Brits and Canuks.
Turkey is reinforced with Commonwealth African troops - some armor would help out greatly...
Oh, the US declared war - when do the Yanks come over???
BTW - Fall Grau - is it ready for prime-time yet???

Fall Grau has just been tweaking for years. It's honestly the most fun scenario I've ever played, but still not released. I'm playtesting version 1.22 with Jeremy right now (naturally I'm wiping the floor with him).

Played that one many times, great scenario. Loads of fun. Milks the hours. I think I'll play it tonight.
