So, when can we expect first scenario files? Or at least a readme

Soon. Sooner if you are willing to be a tester.

There was an apparent technical problem - and I have lost days dealing with it. The problem was real enough - but turns out to be in ALL scenarios by everyone - just never detected before. Not sure it matters either - but BELIEVING the files were "corrupted" caused me to stop work - and look for "clean" ones. Now I have to decide - go back to CHS177 or keep converting over to 1.8? The latter may be better with AI - so that is my choice - but it will take a few days. I have some help - and those who help can see the files and correct whatever their favorite thing is too. [That is, if you want to crunch numbers, say so.]

I hope to issue a full revised test set Saturday. I can bo back and issue a set that runs now I know it wasn't corrupted - but I prefer to move on - and include some things done meanwhile - and submitted by others meanwhile. I also can issue airplanes for data testing if you know how to do that with just certain files. Always like more plane testing - just because it is such a major rework it is nice to have more data about how it works - or not. That makes RHSCVO release possibly Monday.

Hmmm..have to ask if I got this right...RHS map is same as Andrew B Extended 5.1 ?? So if I already have that I need only art and scenario files ?

Yes - IF you prefer Andrew's map - you can use any RHS scenario with it. The operational differences are:

many more mountains help defense in places like China, Manchuria, Russia.

units can move between the main chain of Indonesian islands (Sumatra to Soemba) - and from Mindinao to Luzon in the Philippines -

and ships cannot sail farthur upriver than Nanking - so my "shipyard" at Wuhan will not be able to repair any ships!

Coal harbor will be called Port Alice and will still be a supply nightmare

The Russian economy won't work (no oil flowing in from Sakhalin Island)

Units cannot move between North Island and South Island New Zealand

ships cannot sail the entire Inland Sea

And Juneau Alaska will be somehow connected for supply movement to Canada - don't ask me how - but I fixed it and it is connected if you use Andrew's map [Something which matters to us Alaskans because - well think fjords - it is silly to think anything is going to move not by water]

But - yep - art files for ships and planes and scenario files are all you need. To use the RHS map you need 22 map panels and pwhex file - and it is nice (but not necessary) to have the "enhanced fonts" Cobra made.

Sorry to be so dense:

I was looking at AB's Alternative map #3 for my solo games. I noticed that all of his maps have standard and extended versions.

Are any and all of the extended maps here: http://www.bur.st/~akbrown/witp/map_mod.html
compatable with RHS?
compatable with CHS?

(I realise that there are no scenarios available yet for RHS.)

Thanks!

CHS scenarios come in two flavors: those for standard maps and those for extended maps. SO ONLY an extended map works with an extended scenario, and ONLY a regular map works with a regular scenario. I have not decided to go that way - being such huge fan of his extended map - I cannot believe anyone EVER plays without it (or a variation). SO RHS scenarios ALL will ONLY use extended maps. But - yes - IF you find an "extended map" - and if the files are working - they will work with any scenario designed for them. There is a nice utility - modselect - which permits you to switch back and forth between regular and extended Andrew Brown maps. He may expand that utility so you can do a swap four ways instead of three - to include RHS map panels. But it is not yet available - so one either

does a separate installation for each map

uses only one map

uses the stock map, original Andrew Brown Map, or Extended Andrew Brown map - using mod select to switch back and forth -

or if you are really clever and wanted to - you could use the stock map, or original Andrew Brown Map, or extended RHS map - using mod select to switch back and forth (but in that case RHS panels would have to be in the CHS panel folder - which may be too technical for some to figure out - and I am not recommending it and do not do it)

I have three different machines with a single installation on each - but I have two set up to use modselect to go between the "old" maps - and one only using the RHS map

Thanks, el cid, for taking the time to answer me. But, I am dense. I cannot parse out the answer I need from your last post. (Entirely my fault. Please forgive.)

I haven't compared the Andrew Brown's maps (and the RHS map) to each other.

I assume all of the Andrew Brown's extended maps differ from each other in "style" only, and they all share the same database as far as bases and resource locations go. How AB's maps compares to the RHS, I have no idea. They look rather close.

I am interested in playing RHS when the scenario's are ready for it. (I downloaded what was available on Spooky's two nights ago.) However, I wanted to use a different style map (specifically, extended version of Alternative map style #3).

Is this possible?

Or if I play an RHS scenario, am I required to use the RHS map only?

P.S. - I now have two WiTP installs on my computer. The first, which I have been playing on since I got the game, is set up for an extended map game of CHS. The other I created two nights ago in anticipation of RHS.)

Thanks.

Nope. I missed this too for a long time: doesn't matter.

WHEN you load a scenario - you load something called "the location file." THAT gives you names and resources - so THAT is what matters.

The ART is in the same places - so we can have completely different names - and in fact sometimes I have places Andrew does not - and he could add locations I have not (he did add two - but Cobra told me about em and I put em in anyway - I LIKE having all his locations). But he said he wanted to kill a base - and never bothered - so I will probably kill it-
and it might be still on his map - so it can happen.

Anyway - the maps will "convert" to the scenario you load - automatically - and fit the scenario perfectly! Not bad - given I was too dumb to understand it when I tried to make a map mod.

I never thought of this - BUT you COULD use the RHS pwhex file and the CHS map. Cobra reports ANY pwhex file works. I do not recommend it - but it would give you different art. The problem is, some of Cobra's art is FUNCTIONAL art. For example, you can know where ferries are - and they would still be there - but you would have to guess "is this a logical place for one?" Actually, there ARE a few "ferries" on Andrew's map and even in stock - and you don't see them either.

Ah! (Dim bulb comes on over my head.)

Now I understand. Thanks again!

*burning smell indicates attempt at thinking*

It is possible then, that the RHS scenario will have, in the pwhex file, differences in roads, trails, and the like, when compared to the artwork on a non-RHS map shows...

And I won't "know" that, until I try to use that "railroad" hex that is really, according to the pwhex file, a secondary trail (or god forbid, completely devoid of infrastructure).

Hmmm.

you won't know until you hit the R key and all of the roads and rails are displayed.
