Replacements Clarification.

Post by Didz »

I just want to check my understanding of how the Replacement system works as I thought I understood it but now have doubts because I have just tried to do something in my game which I think should have worked but doesn't.

In my French Campaign that I am keeping the campaign log for on the forum I received two understrength divisions as reinforcements. Gency's Infantry Division (1.000 men) and Bruyer's Cavalry Division (1,500 sabres).

Realising that they were not really combat ready I sent them to Donauworth which is my current LOC to take on replacements from the 4,500 men said to be awaiting assignment.

They arrived safely and in order to enable the taking on of replacements I assigned them to their prospective Corps.

Gency to Lannes and Bruyer to Davout.

I then clicked on the Corps commander counters selected view units and clicked on the division instructing it to take on replacements. But it didn't work and I don't understand why. According to the manual Divisions of a corps within a few hexes of the Ops Centre will be able to take on replacements. Gency and Bruyer are actually sitting in the OC hex but don't seem able to.

Any thoughts?

Has this been sorted out? I also haven't noticed replacements working.

Replacements worked for me, even when the unit wasnt in the same hex as the op centre.

Did you check the boxes on the left of the units in the view unit screen on the corp menu? When I clicked (to get a tick) on units that had a need and they were within range of the op centre i had no problems getting replacements.

I tended to have Nap at the op centre though, so maybe this had an influence

I've successfully allocated replacements in the past, which is why I thought I understood the way they worked.

In my other games it was just a case of placing the units close to the OC clicking on the Corps Commander, selecting View Units and then ticking the tick boxes next to the units needing fresh troops. Clicking OK and going back into view units confirmed that the strength of the selected units had increased and the number of replacements had dropped.

However, in this particular instance it hasn't worked and I'm not sure why.

Gency and Bruyer are both located at the OC where there are now 5,000 replacements awaiting allocation. I have assigned them to a Corps and they now appear in the list of units associated with that Corps. I have accessed the Corps unit list and clicked on Gency/Bruyer and then OK. But nothing happens.

The only explanation I can think of is that for some reason the Corps Commander needs to be at the OC not just the unit but that seems a bit odd. One would have expected to be able to replenish and rest a unit without a Corps commander being there to sign the mess bill.

Is any part of the replacement "problem" that people are trying to increase the strength of the unit beyond it's original strength? I don't think you can do this.

Thats another possibility. Both Gency (1,000 men) and Bruyer (1,500 men) appear as reinforcements in their depleted state.

My assumption was that these divisions represented new units which were not yet fully formed or old units which had suffered attrition and needed bring up to strength. However, if as you say the maximum strength of the formation was set to 2 and 3 respectively then it would prove impossible to bring them up to combat strength.

I guess it depends what Frank intended them to represent.

I know this "reply" is 2 years late and I suspect you have noted the answer already, but ;
if you look along the unit info line you will see the word "need" followed by a figure. This figure is the amount of replacements that can be allocated to that unit.[;)]

I note that you quoted reinforcements of Gency & Bruyer. I have yet to trace these.
Where did they arrive and for which Scenario. I doubt you will recall now , but could you look up for me ?

NB. If you are now on the 2.20 patch version you may no-longer have these units.
( Hopefully you still have this game. ) If you cannot trace could you please confirm.

Thanks. [&o]
