Eagle Day to Bombing of the Reich is a improved and enhanced edition of Talonsoft's older Battle of Britain and Bombing the Reich. This updated version represents the best simulation of the air war over Britain and the strategic bombing campaign over Europe that has ever been made.
The game is centered around basically, a single day's worth of raids; if the Allied player bombs x amount of oil refineries, he wins the game. Rather shallow compared to even BTR v1.0, but it's the best we could have expected from a pen and paper game in 1971 with no computer assist.
Don't want to tell you how many times I played that game
it also had a campaign game and a reinforcement system
yea, I loved that old game
(in fact, I believe that game is where I found out that the GE flew the Dw 520, found it in the game and then started doing some reseach about it)
there was a SSI style follow up game years later, a lot more detailed, think you had to plot landing and refueling and other goodies, the hassle being, since it was hiden plotting, the other player always would start to think you were cheating
(on a different game but same style, was in a Battle of Midway game, one of the other players started complaing I was cheating, my CV's had to be here, my planes had to of lanched 3 hours ago, where are they at ?, I had expected him to not know where I Was, but would have all his planes on Cap at daybreak, so timed my take off for when they would run out of gas, caught him when all his fighters started to land, he nevered believed that I had planned it that way)
I still have this game in very good condition back in my closet in the states. I bought it brand new in the early '90s, punched many of the counters, but couldn't find anyone to play it with (I was in the Air Force by then, so had moved away from all of my gaming buddies back home).
I'm still saving all of my board games for the day the Armageddon comes and wipes electronics of the face of the earth. Then I will be a gaming king! HAHAHAAAAAAAAA!!!! [:D] You will all bow to me!! [&o][&o][&o][&o]
I wish I had all my old board games as well... the monster AH The Longest Day, the SPI Civil War battles like Terrible Swift Sword...a game never lasted long due to cat messing up pieces [:@]
This was one of my favorite games in 9th grade. I had a good friend that played the advanced campaign with me probably 5 times. He always wanted to play the Germans and IIRC he beat me every time. I didn't care because I loved the game so much. After all those land games with your basic odds chart, this game was a breath of fresh air.
All understanding comes after the fact.

There was an interesting comment (by German Pilots) in the mannual regarding how well various allied air forces tained their new pilots. The best trained were in decending order 1. RAF and commonwealth 2.US 3. USSR.
