LCUs in a stack: Can I change the order?

Post by 1EyedJacks »

Hi all,

Let's say I have the following stack of troops:

INF 18th Div
ENG 12th Aviation
HQ 25th Army
ENG 21st Engineering unt

Is there a way to change the order of the stack so the 21st Engineering unit is on top?

If you are talking about what order they are displayed in the window you see, sure. Just click on any of the yellow column headers.

If you mean re-order them in terms of which ones get shot up and what order the program deals with them, no.

The HQ and the 12th aviation will probably be the top units, but that doesn't matter because they don't participate in combat.

Of the other two, the 18th Division is probably the top unit. If you break it down into regiments however, they will move to the bottom of the stack, leaving the 21st engineers the top combat unit. I think that is what you are wanting to do.

Oh no - stack management !? [:D] I'd heard a humor about that (from H.) something else to add to the list - disable stack management ! [:D]

Yes - I think I want my Engineers @ the top to go after the forts... I remember reading somewhere that there was an advantage to not having you "shot-up" troops or those w/poor disruption numbers at the top of the stack... Of course, I can't find that thread now[:@]

I belileve you are thinking of this thread here. In particular look at the top of page 2, posts #32-35.

Having a unit on top of the stack has no effect on its effectiveness in combat; it only affects how much it suffers as a result of enemy offensive/defensive fire.
something else to add to the list - disable stack management !
It would be more to the point to figure out why the top unit suffers the most from enemy fire and disable that. [;)]

Hi irrelevant,

That was EXACTLY what I was remembering - TY.

Just curious -

Say your stack was:

5th ENG
27th ENG
4th DIV
21st DIV
6th Tank
23rd ENG
3rd FA
18th FA
3rd Spec Base Force
128th Speck Base Force

Now you break up the 4th Div into A, B, and C. Where would the 4th Div fall in the stack - at the bottom?

If I put the 5th on Defense while everyone else attacks does the 27th ENG soak up the extra damage?

Yes.

Yes (although I would not say it soaks up the "extra" damage, it just is the top combat LCU, and so gets hit hardest), unless you do a shock attack. If any LCU shock attacks, all combat LCUs on that side in that hex suffer double casualties from defensive fire, even if they are set to defensive stance or bombard.

I think stacking also matters for air supply of a group of units in a non base hex. The supply only ever seems to be delivered to one unit in the hex no matter how mnany units there are or how many air units are involved in flying the supply.

Yeah I am feeling frustrated on the air supply deal. I have two units in the same hex I am trying too supply and the top unit in the stack gets all the supplies. But it does look like there must be a trickle down effect, I am correct in assuming that. Any way a unit in the bottom of the stack can get supplied first?
