Display Problem with New Monitor

Post by Capt Cliff »

I got a new monitor and now I got a problem with PACWAR and WIR displaying properly! Other programs work fine. The initial screens seem larger than normal but with I get the the senario select screen the whole display is skrunched down and elongated horizontally! This is weird since I only R&R'd the monitor, the same type of Dell monitor that I orginally had!

Any idea's out there?

According to the last post here

http://forums.wugnet.com/VGA-Problem-DO ... 45121.html

if you have a digital monitor its likely the setting are different for each display mode, and so adjusting the screen settings with the monitor buttons while in DOS should solve the problem while not affecting the settings while in XP mode. Actually, I'd try the samd thing even if you have a CRT monitor.

(Never know what new tricks these computer people are up to... it seems their goal is to stay one step ahead of consumer knowledge in the confusion game.)

I'm seeing the same thing in DOSBOX but not running PAC directly under windows. Unfortunately, in the latter situation I'm seeing the Out of Memory problem, so I'd rather get dosbox to work nicely. Haven't found a way to fix it yet, though.

It looks like PAC is changing the video modes two or three times during the splash screens and scenario menu, in a way which is not especially compatible with 'modern' environments. This might be due to mapping of what used to be direct calls to the graphics handlers in DOS, but who can say really?
