CD Drive Problem?

Post by Hycanth »

I'm using WaW 1.04. Every 5 minutes or so, the CD drive spins like crazy. It stops after a while, or if I ALT-TAB. Its very annoying and obviously not good for the drive. What can I do?

As far as I know the cd is not required to play the game.

I have already tried removing the CD from the drive. But that doesn't stop the CD drive motor, which spins on overdrive ONLY when WaW is active...

Hycanth,

I haven't heard of anything like this before. There's nothing in the game that would want to use the CD as far as I know. How are you launching the game and what version are you running? Was this a retail boxed copy or a game on demand online store copy?

Regards

I have a retail box copy. I'm currently using v1.04 but the same problem occured with the version installed by the CD too. I can launch the program by using the autorun menu or by the WaW.exe and I get the same problem.

I have found a work around. As long as I run in windowed mode, the problem doesn't occur. [:)] Unfortunately, there are minor annoyances caused by the title bar being slightly off the screen and the task bar getting in the way (even if I autohide it). Plus, I can't seem to resize the window [:(] ...
