Difference between HP3ANW and HP2005 edition?

Post by Awac835 »

Like the title say what is the difference ?

Ive never played harpoon games, but would like something else then Janes fleetcomander, and dangerous water which is great but is a simulation of a single vessel.

How complex is harpoon? i is it extreme like WiTP? i never got into that game since the wiered turn system was to messy for me. But im dying to play something modern? last hope is shrapnel games who is coming out with a new ATF engine game soon by prosim.

thx for any reply [:)]

The way to think about Harpoon 3 ANW is to imagine you're in the CIC of a task force or fleet rather than watching from an airborne CNN camera. You'll have all the right info, in the same way a modern naval commander would and with the multiplayer aspect, so will the guy on the other side. [8D]

Ok last question then im off [;)]

If i buy HP3 off your website i can upgrade to ANW 3.7 when it comes out by paying the few extra $ and continue to upgrade for 3.8 etc etc?

Will HP3 run on winXP? or is it dos based? It says HP3 ANW will support winXP but since its still HP3 your selling with a licens to upgrade to ANW when its realesed i just like to know since i rather just wait then have to go through the hassle of DOS/winXP emulation.

Again thx for the reply, and sorry for all the trouble [:(]

Harpoon3 runs just fine on XP.

And, in answer to your other question, there are plenty of third-party scenarios available where the player only controls one unit (ship / sub), if that is your pleasure.

That is definitely the plan as I understand it. Lots of folks have indicated that they will upgrade the moment it is released by Matrix. You're not alone.

In a very general sense, Harpoon 3 ANW show modern naval warfare at a more detailed scale, with more factors included both in the simulation and in the calculations for the performance of weapons and sensors.

Harpoon Classic (or "Commander") edition is slightly more abstract, but this allows for both the design and the management of much larger scenarios (some scenarios recently designed for H2005 would bring a modern PC running H3 ANW to his knees). The UI of H2005 is friendlier too. I like them both, and it is important to understand that do not overlap, but complement each-other nicely. [:)]

I've been playing these games since the first release from 360 and agree that they are two completely different approaches to the same type of simulation. They are both fun and detailed but in different ways. That is why after more than a decade the original is still being upgraded and marketed.

These games have very little in common with WITP (May it forever rule!), except that ships, subs and aircraft are the major combatants. But these are tatical rather than strategic combat games and are played in real-time. But, you can pause to enter commands or set the time base so low as to provide plenty of time for decision making.

Both games are highly customizable and offer a tremendous replay value.

While the original classic version is a bit more abstract, you will still need to study weapon and platform stats in detail to play a successful game (a bit of a learning curve).

Both deal with modern weapons, but Harpoon III is very clearly the better of the two if you want screen images that accurately simulate real world command and control hardware.

My advice is to get em both & enjoy the ride.

The best way I describe the games is to compare them to the Canadian Football League and the National Football League. Both football games are very similar to one another.

i.e. Different size of fields, different size of footballs, different number of "downs" [Three for Canada, four for NFL].

Both games are great to play and watch. Same idea, but different implementation.

Great to see another aficionado who plays and enjoys both branches of the game.
