Retail or Download-only?

Post by Zodiak »

Hello!

First of all, I would like to say a big Thank You to everyone who's involved in developing this game (and HTTR)!

I have a question... Will this game be sold in stores (like all the big games) or is it download-only? Cause I don't have a credit card and/or any other means of paying for it online (and I've never done it anyway), but I really want to play it. Will I be able to pick it up in my local computer store? Thanks!

You can pay also via a standard bank transfer, since a few month also via PayPal. We offer both, a download and physical product in our store.

But does it mean the box won't be available elsewhere? Just in a normal games store?

I will leave this for Matrix to provide a definitive response. AFAIK the game will only appear in a very small number of specialty retail outlets. It will not be available in mainstream retail outlets. By and large you will have to purchase it online.

The current release plan is for digital download + game on demand. We do not currently have plans to send this into "full retail", since that market is now mainly suitable for a limited sub-set of strategy releases, though anything is possible if sales are good enough.

How big a download are we talking about? My HTTR folder weighs in at 408 MB. I guess, COTA is about the same, or?

Info on the price of the digital download version would also be nice.

I have yet to confirm the price with Matrix. Of course I want $10,000 per copy but they want something less. It's just a matter of haggling really.[;)]

We will confirm this shortly.

Hmm ... $10,000 USD/copy. Well, that would certainly have made beta-testing a very cost effective strategy to get a copy of the game. :)

Although I'll have to say it is funny how the price of a game can be capped at around $50 USD and how much many will spend on hardware to run just a few games in particular.

Well, now that I have saved $10,000 USD, I think I will start pricing out a RAID/dual core/quad SLI system to play COTA on. :)

Mark,

I agree once I get some money coming in I really want a dual processor machine as COTA should really fly on one of those given that it supports hyperthreading. The AI should run on one and the interface on the other.[:)]

Hi all,

Just confirmed with David Heath of Matrix the Digital Download only price will be US$49.99.

Now this is well below my original asking price but David assured me that we would sell 10,000 units this way. So don't let us down guys. Tell all your mates to buy a copy of COTA.[;)]
