RHSBBO Pre Release for comment

Post by el cid again »

The RHS file set has reached the state that conversion to other scenarios is now practical. RAO (a Russian active variant of RHSCVO) has been converted for Japanese forces only. It is released to the private distribution network run by Cobra for comments. This mod involves changes in ship construction programs - or rather undoing changes to historically existing ship construction programs - so you end up with more of what was planned (and in the case of Japan you may cancel what you don't want - which is an awfully good idea for those big ships - if you want to see many little ones). Japan gets Shinano and her sister Kii [Job 111] as battleships, two battlecruisers in the B-64 variation (14 inch guns), two Ibuki type CAs, two improved Agano type CLs, 4 more Katoris, and a whole lot less aircraft carriers, escort destroyers, and exotic submarines. [Pre war submarine production continues as planned - and the lack of delays may make it a better program - but you get few aircraft carrier subs - and more medium subs - which in fact were the best anyway].

Only ships and ship air groups change in this mod. You can see the carrier and battleships for the Allies in the postings of them on this board.
They should be implemented in a day or two.

Along with the pre release (level 2.42) are files that fix some minor things for RHSCVO and RAO: an extra tender is now 9999ed out, upgrade paths for ship air groups defined, a night fighter upgrade path defined, etc.

BBO is looking quite interesting so far. Though I am just starting to scratch the surface.

Sid/Cobra

Can you post a thread, maybe as a sticky?

That lists each of the Scenarios and a short description of the theories behind them (And maybe the latest version)

Some may only want the Russian or CV or BB options and will be aided in selecting which one they are interested in.

There IS such a thread - two I think - and each scenario comes with comments in its Scentext file too.

Briefly:

RHSCVO (CV Oriented) is the RHS interpretation of Scenario 15 via CHS: both CHS 155 and 177 files were used for many purposes - but much of the device file and the location file are now based on stock 1.8 scenario 15. This is the war as it happened, with construction programs changed as they really did (wether or not they would in the typical game world). Like CHS and stock, the Russians are passive.

RHSRAO (Russian Active Option) is simply RHSCVO with the Russians active - and a submarine fleet (which cannot exist with them passive - for technical reasons).

RHSBBO (BB Oriented) is the same as RHSCVO except players are stuck with historical building plans - changes made early in the war do not happen in time to affect ships arriving during the war. Also, BBO is the opposite of CVO in terms of the Russians - they are ACTIVE - and have a submarine fleet. That does not mean the Russians are at war. It means the Allies control the Russians, and Japan cannot get a "free shot" at a Russian empire. Also that either side can start a war in the north - not just Japan (which always can in WITP).

RHSRPO (Russian Passive Option) is BBO with the Russians passive - and no submarines.

RHSPPO (Political Point Option) is BBO with most land units arriving at home given no command - and political points so YOU decide where to send them.

RHSESO (Empire of the Sun) is CVO with a Japan planning committee headed by Gen Yamashita, staffed with Col Tsuji, a naval captain known as "the God of operations" and a few others, modeled on the Japanese planning for the Russo Japanese War. This fictional committee (me) uses thinking of the period (not 1942 or 1944) about how to optimize Japan's chances - and maybe be a fitting opponent for all those Essex class carriers! Anyway a better one. In this mod ALONE you may find things like production of the superb 3 inch AA gun or other things which probably ought to have been done on a wide scale - and no production of Ki-27s until the end of the war. It is either for JFBs OR for Allied players who want the AI to have a chance against the Allies - or players seeking "play balance" - to give Japan a better shot than it really had with the particular Army triumverate in command that was. I happen to have worked this out over about 30 years of time - and so I just need to read my notes!

If these efforts are popular, I will release scenarios beginning at Coral Sea (RHS42), the Aleutians Campaign (RHS43), The Marianas Campaign (RHS44), and the Iwo Jima campaign (RHS45).

On top of this - if anyone likes a campaign - but want something different that I won't agree to make official - I will STILL do it for you - if you don't know how. I will call it RHSCVOBOB or whatever you like. Virtually no one works faster than I do - a little thing takes me minutes - and a medium one hours. I do sims for lots of reasons, and if you want something, but cannot do it - just let me know. RHS is intended to give players OPTIONS.
