very frequent illegal operation errors/ need help

Post by throttle8 »

While trying to play Pure Sime Baseball 2005 Gold Edition, I very frequently encounter operation error messages that always say "This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down."
This repeated error message occurs all the time. If I'm lucky, I can make it through one managed game without "it" getting me. I have had it happen more than once during a single game, which will blank out the current game and force me to restart the game as if I had not started it before.
I have had this type of error message occur while the off season was being processed, several times while the game was trying to process and proceed through the initial association draft, and I've had it occur while in the middle of the Amateur draft.

It is a real turn off having the error messages. It is even more disheartening when in the middle of a game, that I may be winning, and my players are having a super good game and lose everything! (I am not aware of any manual save feature)

I do have the 121 version running.

Can anyone help?!

Hmm, they are typically extremely rare, so I wonder if there is a conflict with something.

Can you give more info on the type of association you are creating, your computer / OS setup, any potentially conflicting programs you may be running like virus scanners etc?

Also (and this will be *really* helpful) There is a special "debug" version of PureSim, that I would like you to run with. If you hit an illegal operation error, it will capture as much info as possible and give you the option to email it to me.

You can download the debug version here

Unzip that and then copy it over your existing PureSim2k5.exe file in your "c:\Matrix Games\PureSim Baseball 2005 Gold Edition".

Then run the game as you normally would and hopefully it will help us track down the issue.

Also, I noticed in another post you did recently that you had to reformat your hard drive. What was the cause of this? I'm just wondering if its related.

Thanks for getting back to me. The reformating question I did not do yet. I know it will happen for sure some time down the road. I just like to be ready for when I need to do it.

I have two associations going right now, both have historical players. The 1940 one is only in the very early stages of the season; less than 5 games played. However, it was hard to get through the team draft at the beginning of the season to put the team together due to the constant errors. The second association I have which is at the end of the 1st season and is "stuck" during the amateur draft. I am not able to make a 1st round draft pick without a game ending error occurring. I am playing the Chicago White Sox and I started the season at 1945. So, my current time frame is the amateur draft before the start of the 1946 season.

I'm using a Gateway computer. From the best I can tell, since my wife bought the computer before we met and doesn't have the orginal paperwork, it is an Intel Celeron 566 MHz. I have 256 MB memory and have a 128MB Ge Force FX 5500 graphics card. I am running win 98SE. I'm not sure of the size of the hard drive.
I have Zone Alarm firewall, avast anti virus program and use guard dog to control cookies. Every time I play the game (or any other game) I always shut down the anti virus, firewall, and guard dog.

I will download the debug and I will keep you advised.

I attempted to download the debug version. When I click on the above link, I get the following:" The file you are searching for is not located on our servers."

Whoa!

I'm so sorry I missed this post. I guess in the crunch to complete PureSim 2007 I missed it :(

Anyway I re-uploaded the file so you should be able to get it now. Hopefully it will help diagnose your issue.

I really apologize for the poor support in this case.

Actually, I'm wrong. I just found your report in my 5/15 emails (that was a busy day!)
