Miscellaneous Notes

Post by herwin »

I was going through some miscellaneous economics notes taken about 30 years ago from various sources. I don't know what might be useful to someone.

Total IJN oil consumption rate during fleet operations, 10/24/41: 400 tons/hour

Cost to create synthetic oil production capacity, 1941:
Japan for 4000000 tons/year: 3years, 2,100,000,000 yen and 1000000 tons of steel to build, 25000000 tons/year of coal to run.
In Germany for 3,300,000 tons per year: 2,400,000 tons of steel and 7,600,000 man days to build.

The repair/construction yards in Sydney could build DDs and repair CVs.

US MS Construction Info:

Class Net Tonnage Gross Tonnage DW Tonnage Speed (knots)
C2 3733 c 5600 8514 15.5
C3 5700 c 8600 12929 17
T2 6107 ? 16765 14.5
T3 6646 ? 18302 18
EC2 4380 7176 10800 11
VC2 4555 c 7200 10850 15-17

Japanese shipbuilding in 1941

74707 feet of building way
34,903,000 of floor space
Inadequate manpower
Also limited by steel production

"For a number to make sense in the game, someone has to calibrate it and program code. There are too many significant numbers that behave non-linearly to expect that. It's just a game. Enjoy it." herwin@btinternet.com
