As you can read above Makin Atoll has been now conquered. Few turns have passed since last update I will try to post the latest combat reports soon.

So, level 7 airfield is needed for B29's. That means that either I conquer Tinian, Guam or Saipan or I will start the strategic bombing campaign from China. Chungking has level 9 airfield on standby.

I will post strategic map screenshot soon too as requested.

Yes, these guys are in trouble but hopefully those additional LBA's can make a diffrence. I moved +100 4E bombers from Canton Island to Baker from where they start to off load their bombs.

Next wave is couple of turns off at the moment.

I was "screwed" by game mechanics this time around. I have now cancelled the off loading at Tarawa and send my AK's back Apamama due to the fact that my AK's HAD not loaded supplies despite opposite orders. So these went in without adequate supplies that they needed!!! [:(] Oh well these things happen with the game and luckily I do have plenty of troops at my disposal so it will only be a matter of time before the fortress Tarawa will be on allied hands.

Also CV Fleet is couple of days away from their full battle readiness. It will be even stronger than the CV Fleet at Tokyo since 3 CV's and few CVL/CVE's have been added!
The questions remains.... where should these ships be heading?

big mistake, he should have gone for the Shock attack for the first real good shot he had at throwing you out... Now that you've worn him down with air and naval bombardment... He is done...

It would be interesting to do a rerun of the turn with a shock attack, just to get an idea of whether it would have succeeded or not...

well held on there Aztez .. one game featur that is unavailable for 2 or even 3 day turns is when the enemy attack out of forts for the next turn they dont count so its possible to make a big shove counterattack and take the place sooner if it fails ( which his did ..) never mind . it will be yours one day soon.

Yes. The shock attack might have worked but than again had my AK's loaded as they were ordered to the situation would have been totally diffrent.

Those LBA's bombardments saved the day. More troops are landing next turn so Tarawa should be a lost cause soon enough as you stated! [:D] One thing though... your mistakes will multiply when you are playing two turns specially in ground combat and at landings.

Allied forces CAPTURE Akyab base !!

RAF Fighters are moved into Akyab immediately.

Next turn Mandalay resources will be struck again. It seems he has repaired some of them. I would think that he is having troubles with his supply levels.

China

Next turn we will see an allied delibarate assault at Kweiyang.

Allied airpower inflicted heavy damage to the Japanese last turn too.

The reinforcements are almost loaded and should reach Tarawa within next turn.

There were nomore Japanese counter offensives last turn. He is propably having high distrubtion among his infantry troops.

Fight in Burma continues... Tarawa holds.

Post by aztez »

I have been busy so this update will not be as detailed.

Game date 2nd February 1944

India & Burma

The ground combat at Mandalay have been bloody. I have tried 2 delibarate assaults againts this "fortress". The result has been 20 000 allied troops dead/disabled and cost for Japanese have been around 6000 men.

It seems that he still has quite a few supplies left despite the fact that I have destroyed the pretty much the whole industry in Burma.

He also raided Akyab from Rangoon.

Day Air attack on Akyab , at 30,29

Japanese aircraft
G4M2 Betty x 27
Ki-43-IIa Oscar x 50
Ki-61 KAIc Tony x 19
Ki-49 Helen x 33
Ki-46-II Dinah x 1

Allied aircraft
Spitfire VIII x 18
Thunderbolt II x 23
Mosquito FB.VI x 5

Japanese aircraft losses
G4M2 Betty: 6 destroyed, 3 damaged
Ki-43-IIa Oscar: 36 destroyed
Ki-61 KAIc Tony: 6 destroyed
Ki-49 Helen: 8 destroyed, 4 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
Spitfire VIII: 6 destroyed, 5 damaged
Thunderbolt II: 1 destroyed, 5 damaged
Mosquito FB.VI: 4 destroyed

He has 11 units at Rangoon and 23 at Mandalay. I have actually been thinking of opening a second front in Burma by landing troops near Rangoon. But first I need shutdown the airfield there completely.

China

I tried another ground assault at Kweiyang. The result was not good this time either.

Chinese lost 10 000 men and Japanese side suffered 2500 men lost in action.

Central & North Pacific

Allied CV Fleet is on the move and should reach their designated target area within couple turns. The target will be revealed soon by allied HQ.

The ASW battles intensify. However I managed to sunk few enemy ships at the cost of losing propably 1 submarine.

Australia, NZ & South Pacific

The battle at Tarawa continues. A hint for any Japanese players out there --> they really should fight in the frontline! Atolls can be quite devastating.

Hopefully this sad little invasion will come halt soon and I can deploy my troops elsewhere.

Otherwise it has been quiet.

Everybody is talking how bad the situation for the Japanese side is in later year. Well if they really want to cause harm they should make a frontline defense. Those stubborn Japanese infantry men are hard beat since they simply wohn't surrender.

Bombing the resources in burma wont reduce his supply one bit imo.

You really need to surround him before any supply losses will be measurable. I thought you were going to envelop him rather than go head-head ?

good luck anyway

I'am trying to envelope him but it is taking ages for my troops to get below Mandalay.

Argh... The second front idea propably is worth considering.

Japanese airforce tried to bomb shipping at Akyab.

Ki-61 KAIc Tony: 15 destroyed
Ki-49 Helen: 4 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
Spitfire VIII: 4 destroyed, 1 damaged
Thunderbolt II: 1 destroyed, 2 damaged

Allied Ships
AK Foch

British HQ has issued and order to start preparing for possible major invasion. The idea is land troops behind enemy lines and thus cut off his supply roads. The Ideal place would be around Rangoon. This operation would include 5-6 UK/Indian divisions and supporting elements too. A staging for this operation will be Chandspur.

RAF has continued to bomb enemy troops at Mandalay.

Central & North Pacific

US CV are nearing their target area. This operation will conduct raids at enemy held Marshall Island chain.

More news on this navy action to be recieved soon.

China

Tarawa is still holding. The good news is that I have now adequate level of supplies there. My troops will rest a while before starting their final assault on the atoll.

LBA will continue to bomb Tarawa and hopefully inflict as much damage as possible.

Also it seems Truk is having quite a lot of enemy activity. Allied intel indicates that nearly 100 ships and 42 enemy units are present. This is an intresting information and I need look into it.

Otherwise troops are preparing for future battles ahead.

Game date is 6th of February 1944

India

As indicated earlier I'am moving infantry units and transport ships to Chandspur for possible invasion of Burma. This operation has not yet been decieded.

Enemy planes tried to strike Akyab again.

Day Air attack on TF, near Akyab at 30,29

Japanese aircraft
A6M5 Zeke x 17
Ki-43-IIa Oscar x 24
Ki-61 KAIc Tony x 21
Ki-49 Helen x 3

Allied aircraft
Spitfire VIII x 25
Thunderbolt II x 15

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M5 Zeke: 3 destroyed, 1 damaged
Ki-43-IIa Oscar: 13 destroyed
Ki-61 KAIc Tony: 12 destroyed
Ki-49 Helen: 1 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
Spitfire VIII: 5 destroyed, 4 damaged
Thunderbolt II: 1 destroyed

Allied Ships
AK Foch, on fire, heavy damage

RAF has continued to bomb Mandalay area.

Central & North Pacific

I'am reorganazing my submarine fleet. There are quite a few new Captains assigned to their new boats.

Allied CV force struck enemy shipping at Marshalls.

Day Air attack on TF at 80,78

Allied aircraft
FM-2 Wildcat x 23
F6F Hellcat x 103
Hellcat II x 12
F4U-1D Corsair x 8
Corsair IV x 6
SB2C Helldiver x 179
Barracuda x 44
TBM Avenger x 177

Allied aircraft losses
SB2C Helldiver: 1 damaged

Japanese Ships
AP Ryoyo Maru, Bomb hits 6, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
AP Neikai Maru, Bomb hits 3, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
AP Haaburu Maru, Torpedo hits 4, on fire, heavy damage
AP Keisho Maru, Bomb hits 5, Torpedo hits 2, on fire, heavy damage
AP Kogyo Maru, Bomb hits 6, Torpedo hits 1, on fire, heavy damage
AP Nissen Maru, Bomb hits 6, Torpedo hits 3, on fire, heavy damage

Suprisingly no LBA assaults againts my CV Force is made by the enemy. Those transport ships were also empty so he must have moved some of his shipping away. That would explain why I have seen increased activity around Truk.

I need hurt his naval fleets now since I do not want him to start building up Marianas. Allied HQ is considering it options.

China

[>:][>:][>:][>:]

Australia, NZ & South Pacific

Tarawa still holds. I have rested my troops now for sometime and an delibarate assault is ordered next turn. I'am not confident that it will be succesfull though.

Otherwise I'am considering my options on where to move next. There are few quite juicy targets to be evaluated.
