Looks like is taking another risk by moving troops to Lae without proper CAP cover [;)]

Are you looking into placing some more heavy bombers in the area? That could result to another disaster for the Japanese.

Complete lack of AV support really .. 60 in PM and 180 in thursday is. cairns/cook and towsville all about 60 each .. barely supporting the b17's ..

One AV regiment (270) heading to brisbane .. and 3 more in america awaiting transports ( which i seem suddenly very very short of)

hit them heading home today .. all 3 sank .. nothing escaped [;)]

very quiet turn really .. due to missed turns .. i didnt set my hurricanes in china for the 'test' and was on the recieving end of japanese LBA .. end result .. dead hurricanes .. bah ..

AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/03/42

start of turn ships sunk report ..

Japan Allies
CV 0 0
BB 4 1
CA/CL 2 10
DD 13 21
Aux 20 54
Merchants 111 103
Subs 7 5

1st time japanese merchant losses exceed allied .. most japanese casualties are AP's too.
allies NEED more shipping in the pacific , even sending c 180 RN merchant ships i still
feel short for troop movement, so had to send a large 3k bunch from australia back to ContUSA.

again a quiet turn .. just a few things happening

Japan is chasing the AF symbols over china ..
Day Air attack on Wuchow , at 42,39

Japanese aircraft
Ki-21 Sally x 36
Ki-49 Helen x 61

Allied aircraft
no flights

Japanese aircraft losses
Ki-21 Sally: 5 damaged
Ki-49 Helen: 2 destroyed, 17 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
SB-2c: 1 destroyed

Allied ground losses:
13 casualties reported

Airbase hits 2
Airbase supply hits 3
Runway hits 26

AA fire is better than fighters here (just).

2 B17 groups take turns hitting gili gili. hopefully preventing it becoming anything
more than a malarial hell hole

Day Air attack on Gili Gili , at 56,94

Allied aircraft
PBY Catalina x 1
B-17E Fortress x 31

No Allied losses

Port hits 1
Port supply hits 4

finally got some F5's into cairns .. lost one on the way from andaman to timor..
the other group will operate from dacca..

Lae is still repairing after 3 days of no bombing so im guesing he is eng short (good).

heres the latest piccie from the South DEI .. jpanese CV's ??? maybe ..

My carriers are in derby again . no night attacks for a while. BB resoulution turned back to
derby as she's far too slow (1/0) .. needs further repair locally. However all allied fighter repaired in derby with many spare pilots/group .. ie 72 planes 90 pilots .. i find this
keeps damaged a/c reduced and allows for a higher % CAP .. IF hs Cv's coem calling to N australia
he will be in for a shock.

Well-wishers? To hell with that, if you DON'T make it and come back to finish this AAR ( one of the few I actually think of highly enough to follow daily) whatever sent you into hospital is going to be the least of your worries ;).

Seriously though, good luck and hope it all turns out well. Anything I can do to help/translate just let me know.

Yeah just remember to stop at hydrocodeine and not dihydrocodeine [:D]

(my last sudden trip to the hospital was due to a cranky Gull Bladder.)

Ah the joys of typos ;). I admit it has been a while since I anything but roadside surgery but I never came across a Gull bladder ;). Sounds DAMNED painful though.

LOL

Gull Bladder [:D][:D][:D].. does sound painful indeed.

ANYWAY.. major upset in hospital planes. this was m3 3rd appointment for surgery on my right leg ( which was amputated 17 months ago and has left me in a lot of pain since..).. the op is two fold

1) eliminate the pain
2) lengthen the remaining bone in the femur to allow better mobility with a prosthetic.

Was admitted synday PM .. and was on 'nil br mouth' from last night.. at 11.30 AM today ( after having no visits from the anethetist (sp).. or surgeon the 'bed manager' came for a visit to tell me the operation was never planned for today !!!!! but they had to admit me due to govenment rules about only having 2 ops cancelled , 3rd must be admitted but the operation does not have to take place ! .. so i could have stayed in till wednesday on the off chance that it might get done ( v unlikely imo) OR start again ! .. I was not amused as you can guess. The next possible surgery date is the 5th June ( which is fine). BUT I am FURIOUS about being duped into hospital on a false pretext and wasting 24 hours of my life not to mention the worry of pre-op nerves..

SO expect the allies to be very very agressive from now on .. ( kidding ).

5th june ties in well with Scottys forthcoming "busy schedule".. where he'll be hard pressed to get turns done for a couple of weeks. [;)] . He will be busy untill then but we should get a few turns done none the less.

Many thanks for the kind words guys , much appreciated. <sniff>

after ive calmed down and got a new turn. time for an overview i think. the strategic map has not changed much in positioning but forces are building up and not too long till the lightning. that will take the strain off the very limited P40 units. I'll also do a list of 'most damaged allied ships' If its interesting maye channel 5 will comission a TV show on it ( they do listing of all other kinds of crap so why not mine [;)])

I did a screenie of san francisco, as you can see 3 BB's in need of repair. the one ( forget the name) in los angeles is down to 9 but still needs the 4/42 upgrade.

HI Pauk ..

This wasnt the destination , got dropped off en-route ?? bizarre. didnt even slow down so must have pushed them overboard or made them walk the plank [;)]

Its all gone very quiet .. very very quiet truth be told..

only a few things happeneing

1) Japanese training missions
2) japanese land bombardmenst in china
3) Lae AF has been clobbered by the allies, all his fighters and bombers are long gone. AF 80%+ damage and i'm hitting the engineers from 6k alt with no losses ..
4) Gili Gili .. japanese SNLF (6th) getting pounded by b17's and the port takes the odd hit to prevent AF building.

I had a bizarre thoughtabout the japanese training bases in range of allied float planes. could i fly in supply and an AA base unit to really wreck low level flighter training ? more importantly could i fly it out again ?

In the pacific the americans are preparing to fly in a BF to Baker is .. time for a slow 'ooze' forward.

Also found a 2nd RAF Air regiment in Derby ( don;t remember sending down 2 ) will rail over to townsville , while BF's in the cont USA have transport priority to australia.

Apparently KB is in truk .. if i can believe scotty. He's indicated in the last 2-3 mails that he's now digging in ?? most odd given the grund situation. IF this is true . its a very good forward allied position. Maybe the mauling of the japanese BB's has a psycoligical impact.

One thing to note is mandalay has reached AF 6 .. 300 fighters flown in ( in bad weather unfortunately ).. will rest for 1 day ( praying he doesnt bomb me, but none spotted in nearby japanese bases , inc rangoon .. love F5's ). then a huge sweep over pagen where 40 odd japanese fighters annoy allied attempts to close the field. The B26's in chandpur are now fully refitted with B17's ( although its a size4 ) and planty of wellies as back up.

I am toying with the idea of sending the combined allied CV forces to india for an invasion of N sumatra .. ( november time), i need to check out the british re-inforcement schedule for this.

bye bye for now .. i'll let you all know if anything happens

Well the air war definatley hotted up today .. AFTER ACTION REPORTS FOR 08/09/42

BIG fighter sweep over Pagan produced bloody results at least.

Day Air attack on Pagan , at 31,31

Japanese aircraft
A6M3 Zero x 35
Ki-43-Ib Oscar x 12

Allied aircraft
Hurricane IIb x 164
P-39D Airacobra x 22
Hurricane IIc x 14

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M3 Zero: 34 destroyed
Ki-43-Ib Oscar: 12 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
Hurricane IIb: 44 destroyed, 69 damaged
P-39D Airacobra: 4 destroyed, 4 damaged
Hurricane IIc: 1 destroyed, 3 damaged

Then the bombers came calling .. and with the 'reduced CAP' pounded some more japanese
fighters on the ground

Day Air attack on Pagan , at 31,31

Japanese aircraft
A6M3 Zero x 1

Allied aircraft
Buffalo I x 12
Wellington III x 72
P-40B Tomahawk x 39
B-17E Fortress x 42

Japanese aircraft losses
A6M3 Zero: 11 destroyed
Ki-43-Ib Oscar: 6 destroyed

Allied aircraft losses
P-40B Tomahawk: 1 damaged
B-17E Fortress: 1 damaged

Airbase hits 5
Airbase supply hits 4
Runway hits 37

The RAF took one beating though. Im back on CAP duth just in case the jap bombers coem calling.

Then i discovered where the big japanese air hammer is located ( kendari)

Day Air attack on Koepang , at 28,77

Japanese aircraft
A6M3 Zero x 44
G4M1 Betty x 41
Ki-49 Helen x 164

Allied aircraft
no flights

Japanese aircraft losses
G4M1 Betty: 11 damaged
Ki-49 Helen: 1 destroyed, 48 damaged

Allied aircraft losses
Hudson I: 9 destroyed
PBY Catalina: 3 destroyed

Allied ground losses:
78 casualties reported
Guns lost 1

Airbase hits 10
Airbase supply hits 3
Runway hits 54

somewhat stopped my air lift over the small sea to 'mannurgur' <sp>. managed to get the AA guns and AV support accross .. no engineers yet though. ( and thats what i really want there).

also caught a japanese AK trying to enter Lae .. she wont make it

Allied aircraft
Hurricane IIb x 9
B-25C Mitchell x 24

No Allied losses

Japanese Ships
AK Katsurahama Maru, Bomb hits 5, on fire, heavy damage

LAE .. still getting hit hard from thurday is. bombers .

Day Air attack on Lae , at 54,87

Allied aircraft
Wellington III x 24
B-25C Mitchell x 13
B-26B Marauder x 41

Allied aircraft losses
B-26B Marauder: 1 damaged

Japanese ground losses:
117 casualties reported

Airbase hits 5
Airbase supply hits 2
Runway hits 52

Looks like Lae will never be built up to anything . unless he throws in a ton
of fighters ( he has 100's training across the map).

Thats it really , I'd like to have a few paras early .. Gili would make a good target.

I'm 1/2 tempted to ignore the pacific ( apart from posturing ) with such good access to the DEI from
Timor and South New guinea ready for the taking ( once I'm not in living terror of his air force)

bye for now
