ALLIED PLAYER WANTED FOR PLAY TESTING OF '43-'45 SCENARIO MOD (vs AI).

Post by Drongo »

I have just completed a major mod based on the stock scenario 12 (Campaign '43). I have already run two partial and one full playtest of the game. The game is now in it's final form and the previous full playtest was completed without any problems (WITP ver 1.6 and 1.8) other than revealing the need for a few minor changes (now complete). I am about to run one final full playtest before deciding whether it is worth the effort of making it available to other players who prefer (or are stuck with) using the AI opponent.

If possible, I would like to have another player conduct a seperate play test of the scenario while I'm running mine. If anyone is interested, contact me via PM (that's Personal Mail, not Port Moresby). My only requirements are that:

1) You play the scenario in conjunction with the stock map (for the moment anyway).
2) You play the scenario on historical difficulty.
3) You are prepared to play the mod fairly extensively so as to get through as much play as possible as soon as possible.
4) You regularly keep me updated on how things are going.
5) You have a passing acquaintance with the language known as English.

The strategy and tactics used in attempting to win the scenario is entirely up to you.

For anyone considering whether or not to playtest -

The player postions are Allied (human or similar) vs Japanese (AI).

The scenario begins 28 June '43 and ends 30 June '45. Allied OOB is almost entirely based on stock scenario 12 (with some corrections).

The Allied starting postion assumes a worse than historical series of results for the Allies in '42, followed by a six month stalemate as the Japanese consolidate their defence and the Allies prepare to finally go on the strategic offensive. The key territorial differences to stock scenario 12 is that New Guinea and the Solomons are firmly under Japanese control while in China the Japanese have driven the Allied forces inland and have secured the major road/rail network.

For the Allied player to win the scenario, he must achieve an auto victory prior to the game ending.

The mod has been designed to provide a Japanese player postion that the AI player routines will better handle than in the stock "historical" scenarios. To this end the scenario has been extensively modified in the area of deployments, units and the Japanese economy. The Japanese under AI control should now fight better, harder and for longer. To achieve part of this, the Japanese OOB was made considerably stronger than it was in stock scenario 12 so that the Allied player should face a contest no matter what axis of advance he chooses.

Where ever possible though, care has been taken to avoid the Allied player facing a "fantasy" Japanese opponent. For example, the stock Ki-43-II will still remain the most common JAAF fighter until the arrival of the Ki-84 in mid '44. The A6M5 will still remain the most common JNAF fighter type for almost the entire game. Japanese ship types and numbers remain primarily as they were in stock. Aircraft type availabilty and ship arrival dates have had little change from stock.

While it is no longer a purely historical scenario, it is one designed to present the Allied player with reasonably historical challenges in order to defeat the Japanese (AI) opponent.

As the Japanese (AI) opponent is designed to fight primarily on the defensive, the emphasis will be on the Allied player to carry the fight to the Japanese in order to achieve victory. However, the Japanese AI should not be considered a "passive" defender as in past tests it has shown it can and will counter-attack with reserve naval and land forces.

I just started a stock Campaign 43 game against AI to see if stock plays better than mods. And I'm totally fed up with all those Dec 41 starts.

I'd love to give it a try...and I probably can write readable english..[8D]
