Oops no capital ships in the invasion TF hurt me but we will go ahead.

I am concerned about the strength I am meeting in North NG.

I have already had to allocate 3 extra Bdes to future Hydra operations and I I think I will reinforce others as well but the fact is I dont have that many extra forces available

I will reinforce Sansoper and Wasile by 3 Bdes each and keep the remainder to reinforce Noemfoor if I HAVE to

1st Aus Army Reserve

112th US Cav Regt Reserve TF -> Rabaul
1st Aus Bde Reserve Aitape
7th Aus Bde Reserve Lae
30th Aus Bde Reserve Aitape

6th Army Reserve

4th USMC Raider Bn Rabaul Rabaul
364th US RCT Rabaul TF-> Rabaul
4th USMC Para Bn Rabaul Rabaul
13th Canadian Bde Rabaul TF-> Rabaul
14th Canadian Bde Rabaul TF-> Rabaul
15th Canadian Bde Rabaul TF-> Rabaul

Andy, Andy, Andy . . . Those 4 CLs you had in the Bombardment TF would have done wonders in your invasion TF. And they probably didn't do much for the bombardment either.

OK so far so good.

14th Corps is ashore and consolidating at Noemfoor.

Yes I have suffered but only 1 ship has actually sank so far.

Hydra 7 is loading at Rabaul on assault transports 1st Aus Corps 80% Prepped (I Aus Cav Div 100%/ 1st Cav Div 100%) has been reinforced out of theatre reserve by 1st Aus Bde, 30th Aus Bde and 15th Canadian Bde.

This force will start to move North shortly I will cover it with my replensihment TF and 2 BB's from 7th Fleet.

I have 5 modern USN BB's in refit on the West Coast getting ready for Thunderchild

So far I have lost only one ship although several are heavily damaged.

I must keep up the pressure on him in NG.

Remember this is just a massive strategic diversion the real assault is Operation Thunderchild so every unit air group and ship he wastes trying to stop me is to my benefit. The ground forces for Thunderchild are all resting on Kwaj out of the way so the more I exhaust hime here the better

Every unit he diverts to the PI where I have no intention of going is to my benefit.

In short I will continue to push north with all despatch !!!

The Allies FBs are crucial to their success. They will fly from level 2 airbases, you get a large number of them with lots of replacements. Coupled with all of the EAB and SB units, you can take a base, repair it in a day or two, build it to level 2 in a week and start flying against your next target. P-40Ns have a normal range of 4 hexes so they can reach out very well. And those P-47Cs are also FBs. [:D]

Yup I have about 100 P38J's and P40N's as well as a few F4U1D's there now as soon as it goes to lvl 3 Ill bring in some Havocs and Mitchells for low level frag and napalm action !!!!

I would like Sarmi to be lvl 4 before the next Hydra TF attacks as I dont really expect Noemfoor to have fallen by then

Sansoper is next I really wish I had the other 5 BB's currently in refit they would be very usefull now but I will need them in perfect fettle more when Thunderchild is launched.

I estimate 60 more days and then I will need to start transferring forces towards Centpac for that offensive.

I also need to prioritise pulling US 14th Corps out of Noomfoor as soon as I take it to refit as they will be taking part in Thunderchild.

9th Aus Div has nearly completed its refit well ahead of schedule at Brisbane this is my most experienced battle hardened Divison from El Alamein to New Britain to New Guinea they are my most overused assault formation and they are back up to strength.

I am seriously considering using them to aassist the green militia of 5th Divison sieze Namlea

It may be overkill but I dont trust green militiamen to get the job done alone. (alternativley Kai Island beckons once more)

11th US Corps need to be pulled out of Sarmi ASAP to refit as well

After the completion of Hydra 1st Aus Army will have

1st Aus Corps
1st US Corps
11th US Corps

ABDA Force in North Australia will have about 4 Divisons available

14th Corps transfers to 6th US Army whose 1 Amphib Corps are currently prepping for Woleia an operation I am reconsidering as I may not have time if I want to launch Thunderchild on 1st June.

Thunderchild is the main attack for mid 44.

After I close down Hydra and have refitted where required I am thinking of doing a dogleg West from NG into the DEI.

It wil have to be on limited scale as most of my Amphib assets will be moving to Centpac where Nimitz is getting antsy at MacArthur getting all the shipping !!!!

I think you should aim at consolidating what you have at the moment -- you had a severe rebuke ("OUCH !!!!!", I believe you called it) with Hydra IV. When you hit a speed bump like that, it is usually a sign that you are nearing the end of what you can sustain, and you risk a defeat if you overextend yourself. I'd concentrate on making sure you have the bases you've attacked in the bag before making the next big jump. Should also give you time to move in more supplies and make a sustained completion of Hyrda and Thunderchild possible. Sticking to an arbitrary timetable shouldn't dictate your plans after all.

There is a big part of me that agrees with you but I am pretty much as strong as I get the longer I let PZB fort up the harder it gets.

I have the advantage and I am going to press on.

I actually haven't suffered that much all my ships and airgroups are back at full strength I have lost 1 LST and 1 MSW sank and about 15 damaged well under the allowed attrition for the operation the deeper I strike the more he has to spread out to counter me.

I am going to keep going for at least the next two ops Menado and Woleai look well defended so I will review those a little longer but I expect to keep going

Dont forget my replacement Navy Fighter pilots are as good as those I lose in these fights I cannot match his training schools for fighter pilot quality so he will have an edge there but a 70xp pilot in a Hellcat is still a formidable opponent

I think the biggest problem is always going to be the number of LCUs it takes and how long they need to repair and reprep from one mission to the next. You should have enough to do two or three ops at a time, but it takes a bit to then get them ready to go again.

Amazing how much planning you have to do. I didn't get to the really complex times but I still had a bunch of 5x8 cards and pieces of paper flying around every turn. By 1945 it will be a nightmare trying to keep things in control. [:D]

Aye it needs a spreadsheet to do - it its just hard.

The requirement to rotate land units back to Australia to refit is a pain. - 1st and 9th Australian are currently there for R&R

Preparation Points take a lot of time but all of the Hydra forces are prepped and ready to go this hasnt just been started Hydra has been prepping for 5 months so I should be ready.

All the time 8th Army was siezing the Marshalls 1st Aus Army was getting ready for Hydra.

Planning is the key.

Tomorrow is a key day first attack on Noemfoor

My 1st wave goes in supported by the re armed Iowa Battlegroup and 4 TF's of Fleet Carriers

I hope my air and sea bombardments can suppress the islands defences

My AE/AD and AO's have re armed and refuelled the fleet so time to go in hard
