FOW in 1.801

Post by 2Stepper »

Greetings.

Have to say first, well done on the interim patch.  Especially with all the new game interface tweeks.  Question though does come to mind about FOW.

Would it still be logical to expect that we have certain "sync" issues that look like FOW results run amok when the allied player runs the combat turn?  In a current PBEM game my friend and I are running, I saw a series of results taking place that was COMPLETELY different then what he saw as the allied player.

Combat results aside, what was surprising was when he ran the same result, many of the key events didn't happen.

So naturally he was left wondering why certain ships had wide, gaping holes in them, etc.  I would have as well...

When he re-ran the combat turn it ran correctly.  With all results shown.  The good, the bad AND the ugly this time.  Any thoughts on what might be responsible for this?  Its infrequent at most that such things have happened since say early 1.6, but it does happen.  Just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas.

I it was know with 100% certainty what caused this, they would fix it.  It is and has been the hardest bug to track down.  Note that it also occured in the earlier UV and as far as I know it has never been completly eliminated.

Sync issue remains on the fix list.  For now, you can minimize occurances by not straffing warships/PTs/barges and trying not to use the esc key to speed up the combat animations except where necessary (like during a real long Land combat execution)  Also be aware that using different patch versions between players 1 and 2 in a PBEM will cause out of syncs.

Well, I'll have to check with him to see if he did hit ESC or not.  I know I do, but that's as the IJN player.  I've not seen this occur from the IJN side.  Just where the allies see things or "dont" see things that SHOULD have happened.  Any rate, thanks for the insights.
