CHS: CLs Ioshima & Yasoshima

Post by GaryChildress »

Will these two ships be included in the next CHS?  They might make good dauntless fodder.  According to the book Warships of the Japanese Navy by Jentschura, Jung and Mickel they served for the Nanking government from '38 and '39 until '43 when they were officially taken over by the Japanese.

They could be represented in CHS by an early phase, representing the armament and appearance of them with the Nanking Government and then upgrade to a late war phase when they were used by the Japanese.  I've done a late war version of them which is posted at Rogue's.

Just a thought.

They didn't exactly "serve" the Nanking regime - they were wreaks under commission!  Towed to Japan and fitted out as gigantic escort ships - they were armed exactly as you would expect of a Japanese midwar DE - with a couple of 12cm guns - but lots of depth charges.  See Japanese Cruisers of the Pacific War (a massive and wonderful book, full of line drawings, the fruit of over 40 years of research by a Dutch doctor and a US cabinet level official).  A proposal to arm them as AA units is more interesting - and may make RHSESO - if we ever get to doing it.

"and may make RHSESO - if we ever get to doing it." does this statement imply the incurring delays or  is something else amiss?

The changes to CHS (not a misprint) are enormous - and require review.  Usually they change something for good reason!

I also have put in a safety check procedure - and regretfully it detected a file error that took me two days to fix.  Seems I somehow wrote over the current ship files - not a good thing - and had to update back two versions or so.

Then I have attracted an international set of data dectives - and I have to answer their queries if I want to get more material.

No - there is no problem other than time.  I like those two cruisers - one built in Japan - one build to a similar standard in China - and I know them also by their Chinese names - Ning Hai and Ping Hai.  I think they make quite nice river cruisers - and potential coastal escort leaders.
