what is it about Jap subs??

Post by samthesham »

Playing CHS with the latest. In the first two weeks, I have lost 7
DDs', 2 CAs, a CL, AV, PG and MSW vistiom to torpedo attacks from subs.

MOST OF THESE ATTACKS WERE IN ASW groups going after the subs themselves.

And this is only a partial list; I have actually lost several more.

I have sunk 1 (ONE) sub.

Is this PBEM or IA? If IA at a high level then it is because the IA games the results.
To quote from Evans/Peattie`s {Kaigun}
"Mistakes in operations and tactics can be corrected, but
political and strategic mistakes live forever". The authors were refering to Japan but the same could be said of the US misadventure in Iraq

Its a PBEM game; historical sub settings.

By the way, I have had about 6 subs sitting on a jap TF for about
a week, with no ASW or sub attacks. do sub encounteres happen more
often with one side moving?

Both v1.8 and CHS have independently neutered ASW so in combination of the 2 the hunters become the hunted. I find that as the Allies I lose 2-3 ASW ships to every sub sunk....that is with constant monitoring of IJN subs every turn with ASW AC and then dropping multiple ASW TFs (with good TF commanders) on top of them. It only takes 1 torpedo to sink an Allied DD if you are more than 2 turns out of port and in return most Allied depth charges only "rattle" the Japanese skipper's cage.

You are almost better off just searching as much ocean as possible with ASW AC and then AVOID spotted subs with your transports and ASW TFs.

I think that the new version of CHS will correct this at least partially.
