:) Good idea. Im Rob Roberson...played both the original (endlessly) when it came out and Harp 2 (didn't really enjoy it as much). I live and work in Arizona where Im the video coordinator for the Arizona State football team (game films). A former sailor myself, I have long loved any wargame with a naval tone...a very big time War in the Pacific player...

Ill be watching the release of this closely, if its an improved version of Harp 2...Ill most likely get it...

I'm Jim Cobb. I've played all versions of Harpoon since Day 1. As you may know, I'm a writer/reviewer and have surveyed all the modes and mods.

I might as well chip in...

I am Dimitris from the Harpoon Headquarters, the biggest Harpoon fansite on the web.

The HarpoonHQ has long maintained a strong cooperative relationship with the developers of the Harpoon series, and we are looking forward to extending this cooperation now with Matrix. Like everyone else, we have been waiting for ANW for a long time and are thrilled with anticipation of the new features. Some of us had the opportunity to test-drive the new release during the long beta-testing cycle and we can confidently say it's been worth the wait.

We host a large number of user-made databases & their scenarios, including Ragnar's famous DB2000, Tom Herron's WW2 database, Paul Bridge's 1950-1964 "Colonial Wars" database and Quinton Van Zyl's 1965-1979 database. As you can see we pretty much have the entire WW2 - 2010+ period covered [:D] . We also provide help to users with FAQs, troubleshooting guides, the Waypoint magazine, the online database encyclopedia and other goodies, as well as maintaining The Harpooner's Point, a forum dedicated to Harpoon and similar wargames.

As some of you already know, running a site and a community forum is often a fulltime job, so we do not anticipate to set camp in these forums. We _will_ however be watching [;)]. Anyone from the community needing help on something, just give us a shout (PM or email preferrably) and we'll help out in any way we can.

Cheers.

Hi guys,
just a little bit of history about myself ,I live in Plymouth United Kingdom (my bedroom window overlooks the Naval Dockyard)! and have been serving in the Royal Navy for over 23 years. got married in Lapland last year which as "Tora" knows is a cold place in December.
My specialisation is working in the ships "Operations Room or CIC" operating the ships Tactical Data and Weapons Systems and Data Links . Served in the Falklands on HMS Plymouth, other ships I have served on are Brilliant batch 1 type 22,Sirius TA Leander,Charybdis Seawolf Leander,London and Beaver batch 2 type 22's,Norfolk,Monmouth and Sutherland type 23's.

Have had deployments to most of the hot spots around the world including the both the Gulf Wars, Kosova and drug busting in the West Indie's. Last year I completed a one month tour in Iraq on river patrol boats .

Got into harpoon with the Amiga version back in the dark ages and progressed through to the latest version up unto today ,where I am the keeper of the Colonial Wars Database 1950-1964, I love the early "Cold War" era of naval warfare thats why I have done a Database to cover that period . Due to the job I do Harpoon is a good comparison to the real world which got me hooked on it straight away .

Hi everyone,

my name is Jan-Paul Köster from Munich, Germany. I started playing the various incarnations of Harpoon in the early ninetys during a high-school year that I spent in Westfield, New Jersey. I immediately got hooked on it until Windows took over and it wouldn't run any more. When I heared of Harpoon 3 for Windows I immediately purchased a copy and have been back in it ever since.

During my studies (german equivalent to an MBA) I set up the AGSI wikis as part of my thesis papers in order to see if that software could be used as a corporate collaboration tool. After the success of this project I continued working for AGSI doing any number of things. For example, the Harpoon 3 Launcher and configuration tool is my creation, so if you have any questions about it just give me a shout. Additionally I have done a lot of testing on ANW. Most recently I have been taking care of the AGSI customer support emails.

Right now I am looking for a "real-world" job as IT-consultant, so if anyone here needs a corporate collaboration wiki, just give me a holler ;)

For any Harpoon related stuff you can reach me at jpkoester(at)advancedgaming.biz

Cheers,
JP

Hi all!

My name is Vincenzo Beretta and I work as a comic-book writer, creative writing teacher and videogame journalist. In the past I wrote supplements for role-playing games (chiefly "Cyberpunk 2.0.2.0." and "Call of Cthulhu"). I'm Italian, 37 years old, and I live in Milan.

I started playing the pen & paper version of Harpoon - the one published by GDW - in the late '80s, after reading (you can quess it :) ) "Red Storm Rising". I refereed some scenarios between small crafts, but I quickly saw that if you wanted the Kirov battlegroup to go against a CVN you needed either a lot of time or a computer. I welcomed the original Computer Harpoon on my Amiga in 1990 and I have the latest iteration of that game (published by AGSI) on my current PC. I also own Harpoon 3 - for whom I did some testing and bug-chasing a couple of years ago, and helped in the adaption of some original H2/H3 scenarios for HHQ's DB2000.

I'm very excited about the new MP feature. Belive it or not, I have a friend who is waiting to play MP Harpoon with me since that original 1990's edition - and meanwhile he got married and we both changed a couple of jobs. I hope that we will see a lot of MP scenarios and some good competition and MP AARs (i.e.: "The Two Sides of the Coin" :D) I think that the current happenings in the War in the Pacific community could be a good roadmap about what I would like to see in an Harpoon section on Matrix's forums, especially if you consider that a game of Harpoon is MUCH shorter :)

Hi all,

I'm Mike Mykytyn and I'm a big fan of the games.

Worked for AGSI for a couple years and helped out with both games. Lots of testing completed and authored a good deal of the manual for AGSI. I'm very happy Harpoon 3.7 is to be released and hope folks will be very happy with.

Anyways always happy to answer any questions.

Thank You Matrix & AGSI!

G'day all.

Most of you would know me from the WiTP thread and before that the UV thread. Been a long time gamer but first cut my computer wargaming teeth on Harpoon. Looking forward to getting back into it and playing against humans rather than the AI.

Rob Carpenter, long time Harpoon computer player from Amiga days.

I also manage the projects that use Harpoon in the Australian Department of Defence. We have helped fund and develop things like the multiplayer capability.

Won't be visiting that often as my main job is now Army simulations, which takes up 150% of my day job... and therefore 50% of my "spare" time.

Wishing Matrix well with this new release.

Cheers

My name is Tom Herron, I keep track of a WW2 database for H3. I live in Dallas Texas and developed my passion while serving in the USN, some time ago!
This is a great community and the game has been moving ahead at pace. We are all excited about the upcoming 3.7 version, it's going to be good.
There are a number of great user databases available and tons of great scenarios out there already. We look forward to many more Harpooners coming out of this Matrix forum. Matrix is a good looking gaming site.
If you want to know more about Harpoon, go directly to ASGI, it's another good way to get information and access to other parts of the community.
I am always available myself for WW2 talk or whatever. Write anytime.

Greetings all. I'm Kip Allen and I'm a newspaper editor for The Desert Sun in Palm Springs, California. I've been a wargamer since the early 1960s when I discovered Avalon Hill. I even did it professionally for a while as a developer for SPI in the '70s. I got involved in Harpoon in the '90s and played both the classic and the H2 on my old 486 PC. SInce then, I graduated to Macintosh and now play using a Mac Mini with OS 10.4.6. The Matrix release will not work with a Mac OS, but I tested the 3.7 beta using Virtual PC and it works fine. It's worth it, if only for the multiplayer version.

Hi I'm Larry and I am emploed at a 911 center. I still have my original Harpoon game and the box it came in. I bought this back in the 80's. I ran it on an old XT and it was VERY slow. I accidentally found the game in a Hobby shop. Not too many software dealers available in those days. I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. It was everything I was looking for in a simulation. I am looking forward to this latest edition. I bought UV and WITP as soon as they came out. Very good games also but they have some growing pains. I will be haunting this forum and anticipate reading and posting here.

Hey all,

I'm Dave. I haven't been playing as long as most of you it seems, but I was hooked after the first game. It was probably in the early 90's. I actually played with Larry Bond and Chris Carlson at Historicon several times. This game will be dream come true for me. I was so pro Harpoon 4 it's all I talked about for years. My friends still won't let me live it down. Anytime there is something one of us looks forward to and doesn't appear, it's " Another Harpoon 4 ". I've already sent mass emails to every one about them eating their words, so if this doesn't come out, I'm in deep trouble [;)] .

Hi, my name is Ethan Atsinger. I have been pooning since I bought a classic version for $10 in the mid-90's. I bought H2 ME and thought I was in heaven and then I saw H2AE and of course bought it also. Harpoon 97 was one I also bought as soon as it came out. In H2, I experimented with PFEdit and made my own DB which is still out there somewhere on the web. In it I saw the flexibilty of the sim and created some great platforms, my favorite of which was the SR-91 Aurora. Believe it or not, H2 had an high altitude capabilty of "Sub Orbit"! Imagine the possibilities...[&o]

I collect Harpoon items now and have most of the versions both software and computer versions. It appears I will for sure be adding 2 more soon......H3ANW and HCCE2005.

Anyhow, I was checking with Jesse Spears in late 99 when H3 was out and was hoping for a windows version. We talked about it and he wanted to do it but the tools were not there at first. When the chance came I became a Beta tester for that version and it was real fun, especially when Nukes were enabled! [:D]

When the MP version was announced, I again became a Beta tester and had a great time testing it. Due to a job change I no longer have internet access except at work so I have not been able to test the MP vesion for a few months now, but I know that it was working pretty well the last time I played it and now the bugs are gone. I am still testing and playing the single player version and can see that - H3ANW - is rock solid! It sure as heck beats the heck out of the Win95/98 configuration issue days that we dealt with for H2AE....

I want to thank Uncle Harpoon for his patience and the whole team for all the time spent in making this a reality. I would also like to thank Matrix for their role in making this happen.

Being a part of the community has meant a whole lot to me and has cost me a many a hard looks from the wife over the years, but it was all worth it. Now I can be that Armchair Admiral I wanted to be.[:D]

I am a gamer, first person shooters and the like, but I always end up pooning more than any other...by far....

Hello, my name is Eric Thornton.
I've been 'pooning since the very first copy was published by 360.  I had a lot of fun with the classic titles and all the expansion packs. Perfect combination with Tom Clancy's Red Storm Rising and Hunt for Red October as well as Larry Bonds Red Phoenix.[:)]

I've bought every single version of Harpoon and I'm glad this franchise will live on with Matrix.

My dream is a 2D CIC map with the possiblity to view all the action in 3D using the latest graphics cards technology and multi-core CPUs.  Grab the ocean from Silent Hunter III, the ship models from Lock On Modern Air Combat with the Harpoon combat/logistics/sensor code underneath. Have open architecture for ship/sub/aircraft/weapon models so third party modders can add/update models similar to Flight Simulator(GMAX?). woweee, I'd be in heaven.[:D]
