RE: Can we get a scenario list?
I had no problems downloading.
After checking it out this afternoon though, I must say that TOAW III will be the most comprehensive and cost effective "game buy" that I've ever seen. Very impressive list of scenarios. [&o][&o][&o]

Well, I was finally able to download the list, and to say that I'm impressed is an understatement.
Please, bring on the game, my credit card is jumping in the wallet!

Did I miss the Desert Storm scenario from TOAW2 in that list?

It's in the Classic TOAW section (It's included in the scenarios, I don't know about the doc.)ORIGINAL: U2

I've finally gotten the list as well; we need a drooling smiley...[;)]

I remember trying to play those WWII grand campaign scenarios but gave up because the AI just took too long to complete a turn. I could build a house while the AI was checking for supply!
Has anyone actually made it through one of the Monster campaigns?

Europe Aflame was at least once played to its conclusion, with something like 350+ turns, in PBEM. Completed PBEM games in the 100 turns range are not that uncommon also.ORIGINAL: J P Falcon

And humans are generally slower (yet better overall) than the PO to send their turn back [;)]

That's not the AI, that's inter-turn calculation. This process has apparently been streamlined, and obviously a faster computer helps. Other than that, I suggest you get a book to read. On a modern computer, it shouldn't take more than half an hour to make this calculation even in a very large scenario.

Hi,
I did a test once on an "entire WWII" scenario.
What I did was, I figured out the total resupply for each piece of equipment, and put that total into inventory so that the AI didn't have to calculate how many trucks were being produced on turn 167.
While I understand it makes for a poorer simulation, it did result in significantly faster turnaround times for each turn.

The calculation is not for how many trucks are being produced, but for how many should be sent to each and every unit which has less than its authorised strength of trucks.
While I understand it makes for a poorer simulation, it did result in significantly faster turnaround times for each turn.
The real killers in terms of replacement calculation are items which have a very small stockpile and for which there is a very great demand. If you want to reduce the calculation times, find out which types are causing this problem and come up with a suitable fix. As you note, this sacrifices simulation, but since some scenarios are totally impractical to play on older machines, there may be no alternative.

RE: Can we get a scenario list?
I for one am fairly disappointed with this list.
I won't name names, but I noticed some fairly sub par scenarios that in all honesty should have been removed from and "TOAW redux" version (and obviously weren't). I also highly doubt some of those were even updated or brought to the "newest standards".
Also some crowd favorites are missing - what's with McBride's scenarios, particulary DNO (Drang Nach Osten)?

There are certainly scenarios in that list which are very sub-par. But there was plenty of space on the disk. Removing them wouldn't have made much difference.

Well a) so far as I am aware this particular designer intends to do further work on these scenarios and release them at a later date and b) any scenario which is available for COW can be converted to TOAW III, just the same as it has always been possible to convert Volume I scenarios to COW. This includes all of that designer's large East Front scenarios, and many other excellent scenarios besides.
Besides the possibility of comissioning new scenarios (which would have been costly, probably would have delayed release, and may happen in the future anyway), there's nothing really to get worked up about with regard to the content of the scenario list. Since, due to the nature of Matrix's business style, virtually all new players will be internet-wise, it will not place any serious limits on what is actually played.
I suspect your objections are due to your more general hostility to the project than anything else.
I suppose this would be a good place to put a couple of links up for new players to archives of existing COW scenarios which can be converted;
http://www.the-strategist.net/RD/news.php - the main online TOAW scenario archive. They've already added a section for the Matrix edition
http://www.tdg.nu/indexscenarios.html - TDG's scenarios. OK, so this is somewhat self-publicity, but these are all first-rate scenarios.
Note that any scenarios which use a modified .exe can't be played in TOAW III yet.

[&:]
Where did you get the idea that I am "hostile to the project"???
To be honest, yes, I think some of the ideas you and your TDG buddies were throwing around many months ago were quite ridicolous and wrong, but that's got NOTHING to do with the "hostility towards the project".
Anyhow, no need to go back to that. TDG's influence to TOAW 3 project was, fortunatelly, kept at reasonable levels, and we all learned long ago that there won't be any major changes to TOAW mechanics in this release (or in the near future), which I am quite happy with. That fact made many of those discussions about wide ranging changes suggested by TDG or anyone else for that matter, rather moot.
So, absolutely no hostility here..... but I *AM* disappointed with the list.
Why?
a) I can barely list 5-10 scenarios that are new to me, perhaps not even that much.
b) Many scenarios I am afraid will be sub par (and/or same old suboptimal, buggy versions, I know so well)
c) Some of my favorite scenarios, that I know exist, are not included - I don't know why. These include scenarios by Daniel McBride, but also some by Tim McBride (IIRC?), some by Trey Marshall (Ukraine 2006 IIRC?), some excellent scenarios by Peter d'Adamo, at least two excelent versions of Nomonhan (can't remember who made them) + some more.
d) Some shitty pseudo-new scenarios made the list. As you say, there's plenty of space on the disk, so no problem, but taken together with the fact that many good scenarios are left out it just adds the insult to the injury.
Forgive me if I got some names wrong, or forgot them altogether, I am getting old, am quoting from the memory, stuff that I played many years ago [8D].... but you get the idea.

A large number were pulled because they required BioEd. Some of your favorites may have been among them.ORIGINAL: Oleg Mastruko

LOLZ.... certainly not. I hate the very idea behind bio-ed, and have never played a single scenario that requires it. I find this ironic, because many "flame-y" posts between me and TDG crowd were exchanged over this ridicolous bio-ed thingie. And now it appears i am crying over bio-ed scenarios being left out - good joke. [;)]
No, none of my favorites that were left out uses bio-ed. [:-][8D] Reasons why I am disappointed with the list have nothing to do with bio-ed, or TDG.

I recall you being very negative to the idea of changing TOAW at all when this board first started. Sorry if my recollection is wrong.

Matrix has every intention of making significant changes in the future. This is just the first release, which is limited by necessity of testing the waters for interest in TOAW.
a) I can barely list 5-10 scenarios that are new to me, perhaps not even that much.
Hardly surprising since all the scenarios are from the public domain. Like I said, scenarios could have been comissioned- but with drawbacks.
I answered your points b) and c) already to my satisfaction in my previous post.

You really are singularly narrow-minded about TOAW. You hate something which extends its functionality but takes nothing away from the core game.

So? The changes to the game mechanics are minimal, or none, so no complaints from me here. [8D] I certainly don't object to small improvements or bug fixes.

BioEd till you turn blue in the face my friend if you want to, I am just not interested in using BioEd scenarios that's all.
