Part 3 of AAR about Overlord '44

Post by larryfulkerson »

German Turn 8:

I would have continued pushing the British 3rd Div west back across the river but it looks like I may have pushed too hard last turn....the entire 2i Panzer Division is in reorg status:

I'm not sure it is really necessary to start multiple threads for your AAR. Each page loads independently, so having 100 pages all in one AAR or 100 independent threads will not make the pages load faster.

The only way to cut down on load times would be to end each page before you get to 15 posts or something, which would be very inefficient. I'd say just limit yourself to one or two movie pics per page of the AAR and you'll be ok with just one AAR thread.

Perhaps a forum mod could chime in and confirm my suspicion that each page loads independently thus making multiple threads a mute point.

Yeah, but it was JamIam who told me to start a Part 2. I thought the same principle applied when I started this Part 3. How about it JamIam?

However Jim, I have been giving some thought as to how I could make more of this AAR and still leave it loading fast. How about a table of contents with links to other pictures / movies. That way if you didn't want to see it you didn't have to and it's easy to get to if you did want to see it. It's win/win. Thanks for prodding me along here.

Hi Larry,

I greatly appreciate all the time and effort you're putting into this AAR, really good stuff!! But (and there's always a but [;)]) I'm finding that its taking much longer to review the AAR with the latest approach. Maybe its because I want to open all the graphics links [:D] . Perhaps you could reconsider and return to previous method. There's just no pleasing everyone is there?
Regards,

Rob.
So we're at war with the Russkies eh?? I suppose we really ought to invade or something. (Lonnnng pause while studying the map)

German turn 10:

Post by larryfulkerson »

Not much happened during the German turn except for that group of troops finally broke through the 82nd Abn Div's lines and a tank unit is headed for the bridge. If the Germans can blow it it'll cut the supplies to the 82nd, 90th, and 101 divisions. They'll have to do something about it immediately.

Part of the revised game plan is for the 50 North Div and the 3rd Canadian Div to hold those guys in place and for the 2nd Armd Div to wrap around them counterclockwise and trap and destroy them. Then proceed up the line toward Caen. At the very least maybe this plan will get the Germans to pull out to the South to avoid getting out flanked. At the worst it'll cause the Germans to call in a lot more reinforcements.

I'm very impressed with how the AI is using the rail lines for reinforcements. Can't recall it being that good before. That said, I'm a little peeved the 12SS didn't rail to the area east of Bayeux to stop such an early penetration in the area West of Caen.

And I must have failed to give the 17th Pz Gren division and the 6th FJ Regt objective paths to Utah beach (they probably end at Carentan). You're wide open near Carentan and the Germans should be pushing to the beaches.

Of course I may have intentionally done that to prevent the AI from attacking the allies early and shattering its ability to defend in fruitless attacks. I wonder if the new tweaks to the AI allow it to know when not to attack, or if it is just aggressive all the time.

I'll wait before tweaking anything till after I've gotten much more used to all the changes and their effects, but your AAR sure has me thinking. Lots of new ideas swirling around in the old cranium.

I'm fairly sure Larry is playing a hotseat game.

But yes, I'm doing this hotseat. I can start over and do it with German PO if you'd like. That would probably give you more valuable data on the performance of the scenario design.

Just give me a heads up and I'll do it.

D'oh! [8|] I shoulda guessed the new AI wasn't THAT good.

No need to restart on my account, I'm already studying the new AI affects in my Bulge 44 scenario and will get around to Overlord soon I'm sure. But thanks for the offer.
