Unnecessary movement by the PO

Post by Neilster »

In the earlier incarnations of TOAW it seemed that the PO did a lot of unnecessary movement of it's forces that only wore them down and burned the turn. Its units seemed to buzz around like bees, often ending up about where they started. I am loathed to move a unit unless it achieves something, as I was under the impression that units that have not moved in a turn are more likely to regain their "strength".

Am I wrong about this and if not, has this aspect of its play been improved?

If you don't move, you get a bonus to supply, I believe. I tried to make 'Elmer' not dance around as much, anyway, it made him look stupid.

The difference between the new and old AI is well described here:

There's still seems to be quite bit of jittering around, tho. Maybe something to look at again? Apart from anything else, perhaps cutting it down further would reduce turn lengths a little?

Thanks, Ralph - excellent job!

If this bothers you, have the PO play its moves running TOAW with the "nodelay" switch.
"What did you read at university?"
"War Studies"
"War? Huh. What is it good for?"
"Absolutely nothing."
