Manual Error: OOB Load/Save options do not exist

Post by WhiteOwl »

Hi,

The manual states that the file menu in the editor contains options to load/save OOB files. This does not exist in the game.

It does using F4/F5, but there's a persistent bug on them, so for the moment they are not recommended, which is why it's not documented as a feature.

Thanks for the reply on this and the other issue. I appreciate the size of the work and being a software developer myself, can also see that the number and types of issues reported so far are of no real consequence. All this is very impressive considering that there are no paid QA engineers.

Just a minor note on your response above. The feature is documented but not in the menu, I assume it will be returned there once the persistent bug is resolved.

Thanks

Yes, it's on the fix list.

What's the bug, can you say? Seems to be working OK for me so far.

Well, that's one of the problems, that is elusive. For some reason, sometimes, part of the name and number codes that determine counter color, type, etc. are cut off so weird and strange color combinations appear. Some other times units are duplicated without rhyme or reason, so it may work in a given situation, but it may screw another OOB.

Did you have the force editor open? The save/load oob option doesn’t appear under the file menu unless you have the force editor open.

Jose (JMS2) is misinterpreting the nature of the original report. The ability to export/import OOB's is still available, and as Panzer War notes, you need to have the force editor open, for that option to appear. Using this feature does not allow you to do any fast and dirty text editing to the OOB's.

The F4/F5 unsupported feature allows for the OOB's to be exported/imported to/from specially formatted .TXT files, where you could choose to use any text editing software to make adjustments to the forces. However, there are issues with this technique, that JMS2 mentioned, not to mention the fact that there is absolutely no error checking.
