2 small oopses in CHS 2 beta
Hi all,
been toying around with the new Revision.
And found two small issues so far:
Naga has now two bases in the same Hex: Naga and Lucena
And there is a Russian LCU next to Mishan Base, which will make a shock attack on the 8th.
Great peace of work by the way and a huge improvement over the last version, which is a impressive feat in my book.
A big thank you for all the work and time which went into this !
Cheers

Thanks! I thought i had fixed both those problems - I must have mixed up my files at some point and lost the fixes. I will put them back in.

More observations
Hi Andrew,
while trying out things, I found out that some of the Japanese assault/landing units lost the prep points for their respective landing zones. Namely:
5th Div. Lost the points for Alor Star.
18th. Div. for Kota Bharu
35th Brigade lost preps for Kuching
65th Brigade landing at Vigan is prepped for San Fernando
Sasebo 1st SNLF landing at Bataan Isl. is not prepped
Kure 1st. SNLF, landing at Legaspi is prepped for Bataan Isl.
Takao Base for Jolo Isl. (static unit)
Maizuru 2nd SNLF (Landing at Wake) is prepped for Kwajalein
52nd NGU is prepped for Wake but is transported to Makin
Are these just glitches or are those changes intentional ? Part of the reballancing ?
Things in China should become very interesting for the Japanese player. I think I like it.
Cheers

This was a bigger oops. It seems that the Japanese LCU planning values and targets somehow shifted 2-3 slots lower in the database. Another editor glitch? In any case, I have now alogned and corrected all of the values, and I took the opportunity to clean up the other strange planning values that I found, mostly for the Allies - mainly LCUs that have planning values of, say, 50, but no target.
Thanks for finding this fault! It was a nasty one.

Josifs Subs looking for trouble ?
Hi Andrew,
one more probable:
Soviet Subs took to sea at the 11th. May or may not be connected with the stray unit at Mishan.
However, the Intel says "Soviets not active". I do not know, if these chaps are just doing a fun cruise or are out for blood. Will try to "bait" them with some transports. [;)]
Anyway, if this is a genuine (game engine) issue, "auto sub-ops" for the allies is out of the question PBEM or no PBEM.
Edit: Yep - the Commie Subs attack Japanese Ships - and they are a first class act ! [:D]
And a Idunnowhat:
It looks to me like subs are much more in danger from the air than by sea borne ASW.
Sunk a USN Sub in port (Manila) by a single bomb hit. And two IJN Subs around PH attacked by Seagulls or something like getting heavy damage - on with 80 float !
While one of the IJN sub-miners near Manila reported 5 hits by ASW and got away with 12% sys !
And a mysterious one:
CVE Taiyo refuses to take on deck a full compliment of AC if in port. If part of an Aircombat TF all is well.
Cheers

Hmmmm. Auto sub ops may be a problem. I thought that I tested that and the Soviet subs didn't leave port. I will have to test it again. About what date did the subs leave port for you? If the subs don't stay put when using auto sub ops, I might just have to set the Soviet subs to appear on 450801 and leave it at that.

RE: Josifs Subs looking for trouble ?
The first Soviet Subs leave Vladivostok at 11 Dec. 41 in my game.
Not to confuse matters - I am using a game against AI for testing and looksee. Could make a difference ?
And the China set-up is very interesting. It is now a place where the Japanese can loose the war if making mistakes in this theater.
Is it possible to "immobilize" Maos troops similar to the Russians, since the Chinese Commies had more mind to get at the other Chinese factions than go for the Japanese ? And anyway Chiang used about 200.000 of his troops to keep Mao in Check during the war ?
cheers

That is a very important distinction. It is already known that Soviet subs will be used by the AI if the AI is controlling the Allies. That is why this CHS scenario variant is called "PBEM only". The question I still have (and still have to retest) is whether Soviet subs will be used when the Allies are played by a person, but using Auto sub ops.
I will give it another test to see what happens.

Saturday morning, first mug of coffee report ... [:)]
First - appologies for confusing matters - pbem etc.
However, here is the bad news: Ran a PBEM against myself - 2 day turns - with auto subops. And Uncle Joes sailor boys in their submersible steel tubes are heading for trouble from 11. Dec onwards. Same result as AI game.
Cheers
And the german soccer team somehow won the first game ...

I don't know if it is of any value, but with the previous incarnations of CHS, all subs {allied anyway} at sea started the game in under the command of the computer...even though I selected computer sub ops to be off.

Actually, the only time this hasn't happened to me was NikMod 5.0.
If none of Stalin's boats are in a task force, then it should be ok. Without computer run subs, I've never had the computer send boats out; as long as the allied side is player run.

Checked the task force item for the russian subs:
At startup all boats are in their pens, no TFs at Vladivostok at all. But still they sail....
Cheers

Adm. King receives a Bath Tub !
Me thinks, this is a funny one.
Just playtesting the beta. At the end of 20th Dec. I get a message: USA expands port to one. OOps [;)]
And yes, the United States Base (Chicago ??) now has a port size of one.
A prime chance for Marshall and Hap Arnold to get shot of Ernest King and get done with the war early, right ?
To bad the Navy is short of rubber duckies at this point [:D]
By the way: The Ivan subs are fabulous ! All of the crew Heroes of the Soviet Union ? Stalin running out of Medals ? So far an AK sunk at Takao Base and 3 or 4 MSWs on ASW near Fusan !
And the ASW trend (air versus sea borne) continues. The the Seagulls and Kingfishers keep scoring at PH (sunk a Jap Sub ! Single hit.) Have a close look please.
And China is a lot of fun for the Japanese player: Any single Sonia to spare is good news ! Even the brain dead AI got the message: Attacking with rather strong forces in the direction of Shanghai ! [8D]
Cheers

A free Sunday ! Yeah !
Here is another (probable):
Alor Star and Kota Bahru both turn to "Burma Area" Bases on conquest. No Change the next day. All units participating (IJA wise) are southern area.
Cheers

That is not an oops actually. The USA base has been deliberately made a base instead of an airfield so that the oil installations there will produce fuel as well as oil.
By the way: The Ivan subs are fabulous ! All of the crew Heroes of the Soviet Union ? Stalin running out of Medals ? So far an AK sunk at Takao Base and 3 or 4 MSWs on ASW near Fusan !
I have tested the Soviet subs again, and they do sortie if Auto sub ops is selected. I have no choice but to set them all to appear on 450801. I will provide a list of the subs so that if a player wants to play the scenario as the Allies and NOT use auto sub ops they can change the scenario data before starting to make them available again.
And the ASW trend (air versus sea borne) continues. The the Seagulls and Kingfishers keep scoring at PH (sunk a Jap Sub ! Single hit.) Have a close look please.
That is for the game maintainers to consider.

That is not something I can do anything about, unfortunately.
