Finalnd, Denmark, Sweden and Norway seem like they would be nice places to live if they weren't so cold.

They are nice places to live because they are cold.

Mosquitos only one month a year.
Long summer days.
Long winter nights. [:D]
Snow.
Did I mention long winter nights?

BWAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!! That's very funny... We have the beginnings of a bitch-ass heatwave in this country right now. At this very moment (0015 hours CET) it is 29 degrees Centigrade (84.2 degrees Fahrenheit) in my living room. There's a little bit of a breeze, but unfortunately it's hot air.

OK - Simpson's Fanatics:

In one of the Halloween episodes, Homer goes into the mystical third dimension. Shortly after he first enters, there is a blackboard on which is written an equation: 1782(raised to the twelth power) + 1841 (raised to the twelth power) = 1922 (raised to the twelth power). i can't write it well here since we don't have exponents...

What is the significance of the equation?? [&:] [&:]

Actually, IF the equation had been true (it is not), it would disprove probably the most famous (only just recently proved) theorem in mathematics: Fermat's Last Theorem, that for any exponent greater than 2, there are no nonzero whole numbers a, b, and c where a^n + b^n = c^n (the "^n" means raised to the nth power).

The equation was still unproved when the show came out... and if you plug it into your calculator, the equation will in fact balance. However, it is a trick that takes place due to rounding errors in your computer/calculator.

Turns out many of the writers on the Simpsons are mathematicians, scientists and computer scientists and apparently hide little mathematical puzzles and jokes in the show.

Ah, so it IS "cold"* there! [:D] It's been running around 40 degrees C here - of course we do have AC and *generally* don't have it at 84 indoors...

* cold being a relative term...

Well, whoopie... I'm an economist, not a mathmagician... (catch that one?)[:'(]

Before climate change began to kick in, Denmark saw a really cold winter once every two decades, and a really hot summer at about the same frequency. And no, we don't have polar bears wandering the streets either...[:'(]

Well, it's indoors, the result of my block absorbing lots of heat radiation throughout the day. I guesstimate that it's about 20-22 degrees Centigrade outside, which is unpleasant enough...
