G'day again, a question on screen shots. Do I need any special software to view screen shots. The manual says to use the print screen key to do a screen dump, after I do that I can't find it, any clues please?

PrintScreen copies the screen to the clipboard. You need to then paste it into a paint program.

"Ctrl-v" will do the trick once you have your graphic program opened.

You should have MS Paint (Start Menu --> Accessories). That's the most basic paint program. Just copy into it with Ctrl-V.

Yep, just one at a time...

So do plenty of alt-tabbing! [8D]

I use a program called Hypersnap. Great wee product and cheap. I liked it so much, I bought the company. (well not really...but I did buy the product).

G'day again, a question on screen shots. Do I need any special software to view screen shots. The manual says to use the print screen key to do a screen dump, after I do that I can't find it, any clues please?
Ron

If you are thinking of writing AAR or guide to the game, I find it much easier to make save game checkpoints as I go (along with keeping notes). Later, I reload the save games and adjust the image and viewing options to illustrate the points which I want to make, then take the screenshots.

That was how the Mini-Guides were done.

That is exactly what I do for my AARs [:D]

Everytime I reach an important or interesting point in the game, I do a save called "Scenario Name - DX - HH:HH" (DX being the day where I am in the scenario and HH:HH the time of save in the game). I also have WordPad open so I alt-tab between COTA and WordPad and take notes for each save I do: what I am doing, what's happening, my feelings, thoughts and concerns. For very small snippets, I do not necessarily do a save game but I record it in WordPad.

When I have 1 or 2 days of game time done, I recall all the saves, do a quick printscreen of each one and edit them in ImageReady (very light version of Adobe Photoshop, easy to add texts and drawings to a screenshot). I save them as GIF for Web (to minimize GIF size under 200K, the limit that Matrix accepts). Since all my notes are already saved in my WordPad file, it's very easy then to copy and paste the text to the AAR forum along with corresponding screenshot.

The best part about this approach is that it can make a victory due to pure luck seem well planned and architected. :)

He he [:D] Yep, know I understand how notorious generals can look like geniuses when they write about their battles.

Usually for AARs I wait for having done the entire scenario before posting it so people can read everything in a single shot...for the Storm Over Iraklion AAR I'm taking a chance and doing it piecemeal, as I am playing it. So I may end up like a real fool in the end [:D]

Fighting and then describing battles is like doing science and writing up scientific papers.

Sure you aim at stuff, but quite often serendipity arrives and you make hay. But you never admit it was fluke [;)]
