Loading units-please help

Sorry if this has been answered before, but I am having problems loading units into vehicles. As far as I know, you are supposed to have the vehicle and the unit in the same hex to be able to load them onto the vehicle. Here is where I have the problem, how do you get the unit in the same hex? When I try to have say a squad move in the same hex as a half-track, it just highlights the half-track and the squad does not move. What am I missing here? Could someone please help this complete moron that is me. Thanks

Hold down the shift key when you click in the destination hex.
