Do you know how fast things upgrade?

Post by el cid again »

I noticed a "rapid fire gun" unit -

with 75mm guns!

Must be a data error - so I looked - and it is NOT.

It is assigned 37mm ATGs. These upgrade to 47mm ATGs. These upgrade to 75mm guns which simulate a 75mm ATG (a modified AA gun).
But I noticed this unit on Dec 21 1941!! So it upgraded two levels - not in Japan but far away - in two weeks.

Unacceptable to me - I have modified the guns not to upgrade. But if EVERYTHING upgrades in days - we have a problem Houston. THings will upgrade fast if the date of availability is past. Too fast me thinks. I would like to see this slowed down in code somehow. Comments?

Hum, I checked stock and stock starts with the "rapid fire" units already having 75mm Field Gun (for example 2RF:LocId1201 has device 287 at start).

Further both CHS and Stock show 37mm(dev279) upgrading to 47mm(dev280) but neither have dev280 upgrading to dev287.

So, not sure what you are looking at, but neither stock s15 nor CHS (s177 Feb 06 just prior to my transmission back to Andrew) have the data you describe!?

But I would suggest not upgrading to devices which are within availability date, unless you want to upgrade to them. The engine will certainly upgrade as soon as the items are available.

You are quite right on all counts:

it is RHS that upgrades to 75mm ATGs - because these were being issued in 1945 -
but I cannot do that in the game unless I want them in 1941 or I create a new device (got a slot handy?)

I cannot even upgrade to 47mm - because most units didn't - unless I want them ALL upgraded in 1941. I hate this - but there it is. I fear the Allies have the same problem - a 75mm field gun will become a 105 in days - an 18 pounder a 25pounder etc.

New device is probably your best option - but if you're out of slots then all we can say (for now) is - "life is full of trade-offs" - and you might have to decide the priorities. I'd vote to make 42-43 work since most games don't get beyond that and who knows - maybe one day there will be more slots !?

I notice that device 277 the 75mm Tp90 Field Gun shows an available date of 4112. If these were being issued in 1945 then shouldn't the available date for device 277 be 4501?

That way they won't update from item 280 until then.

The problem is Type 90 means 1930 issue. I use it to represent a different 75mm gun - an AA gun actually - for AT work - for which there is no slot.
