Question on delays...

Post by GBS »

In game, I was wondering what different effect "insanely realistic" has over "realistic"? Couldn't find an answer in the manual.

'Insanely realistic' is considered to be more realistic than 'realistic' as it increases orders delay to more historic levels.

Some people reckon that another option 'psycho madman realistic' would actually be more realistic still.

Actually the term is "painfully realistic". This is the closest to the delays experienced in RL. Realistic is getting there. It's a bit of a compromise though for those who get frustrated easily. I would recommend that users start with realistic and switch to painfully realistic once they have some experience under their belt.

PS there are no special effects - just extra delay.

I have a question about delays in general

I was reading Markshots AAR and he shows the delay listed as "137"

Exactly what does that number mean? 137 ticks on the clock? 137 minutes? How do I know how to relate that to the in game time?

I am at work right now just trying to wrap my head around some of this before I start the tutorials, but that part of the AAR confused me

I think that's 137 minutes of the simulated time.

As this seems to be thread to ask delay related questions.. can anyone tell me why my Engineer unit in the screenshot below hasn't moved yet?

Incase the picture quality isn't too great - the unit was given an order to deny crossing at 06.31. By 14.15 it hasn't moved. It has requested (and received) supplies - and then requested more supplies.

Just to the north of the screen shot there is a German light armoured company heading down the road to the bridge - this must be a scouting company because the bulk of the German forces are tied up in Elvtherokhorian to the North.

In this case it looks like I will not blow the bridge in time. Partly because I was not expecting this armoured coy so soon, and partly because I wasn't expecting my Engineers to be taking so long to move.

What's the value in the unit's orders delay info?

Banquet,

There is not much information to go on in your screenshot.

However, it looks to me like possibly the selected engineering unit is not under your direct command (see blue command line).

Maybe the sender HQ is overloaded and suffering order delays himself. That blue Cmd line points to which HQ and what's that HQ's orders delay?

Hi Mark,
It sounded to me like he gave the order to the engineer unit. That would put the engineer unit under the on-map boss?
(a bit confused here). To me it looks like maybe is HQ overload: look at that AT unit under his direct command.

I think that's 137 minutes of the simulated time.

It is.

I was going to pretend to be smart by indicating a page in the manual when I noticed that it is not indicated in the paragraph of the manual that explain the parameters of the command tab and the delay process in detail (pages 135 and following).

Anyway, the info is clearly stated on page 110 : Plan When to Issue Orders.

I hope this helps,

JeF.

Thanks for the replies guys :)

The HQ has a delay of 55. I did give the Engineer a direct order myself. This should have put it under my direct command, no?

Your Brig HQ is kindof far from the engineer unit. I don't remember the data right now, but I think the std command range for a Brig HQ is 8 Km maximum for a subordinate motorized unit. An increased distance to HQ increased your orders delay maybe?

Thanks MarkShot - Of course I will need to get this printed ASAP [:D]

I've read it a couple of times.. still struggling to be honest - but after watching the England match (flipping eck!) and a few beers to help the anguish.. my brain is apparently no longer accepting input. I'll give it another read tomorrow when I'm sure the answer will reveal itself :)

OK, so this means that actually the engineers were actually attached by the AI to another unit? There is a Cav Regt HQ unit near the engineers and it is within command range, BTW.
I'm confused.

I'm confused.

Me too. As far as I can see the Engineer is now controlled by my HQ. I'm not sure I quite understand the 3rd state of command (actual) My best stab at it is it's a kinda transition between organic and intended.

With regards to orders delay..

In the case of the engineers the orders came in at 06:31. Is it safe to assume that the delay on the part of the HQ and any further delay due to the excessive distance between the HQ and the engineers was already calculated BEFORE the order reached the unit. So, the only delay that will now decide when the engineers move is the engineers own delay?
