TOAW III Public Beta v3.0.0.14 Posted!

Post by Erik Rutins »

Hi all,

We decided to make the v3.0.0.14 Beta update available while we finish up internal testing. Our current goal is to release an official update this Friday. We will then take stock and see what needs doing in the next update and decide on a release date for that.

The v3.0.0.14 Beta update is now available for registered owners of TOAW III in the Members' Club (click on the MEMBERS link in the top navigation bar). Please note that this is not an official release update and if you would like to try it, it is provided "as is" and with no guarantees or support. Feel free to stay with the release version and wait for the official update if you prefer to play it safe.

Here's a list of what the v3.0.0.14 Beta addresses:

v3.0.0.14 June 7, 2006

1. Addresses an issue where air-transported units embarking near the map edge, would not properly move to their destination hex.
2. Fixes an issue where units were unable to reconstitute.
3. Fixes an issue where English was displayed for the equipment names instead of the language picked.

Well, the air-drop bug seems to be history. Just patched, and ran the first turn in the Market-Garden 44 scenario. 101st Airborne, previously welded to its airfields at the northern edge of the map, have just dropped on their DZ's north of Eindhoven.
We are all dreams of the Giant Space Butterfly.

Can I confirm something important please. Will we be able to patch the official version on top of the beta one?

or should we just wait for the official one?  whats the differance.?   Also, I have had 2 peculiar lock up/freezes during combat resolution.  If this happens again I will report the circumstances more accurately but I found it odd. I had to exit and restart game.

Hopefully, there won't be a difference. Unless something blows up, this will be the release patch.

Everything is going fine. We've identified a couple of other problems, and are going to add them into the patch as well. We're going to wait to release the expanded patch to avoid confusion.

I'll update the know bugs on the main thread later today.

Since some of us have already started games, will we then have to keep two different versions (beta hot-fix and new patch) so that we can continue to play our games started under the beta and start any new ones with the new patch?
To repeat history in a game is to be predictable.

That will be up to you. The database structures aren't changing, and you will get a notification if you are playing with different versions of the game, but there should be no ill effects. The big difference between the two is that the AA values will be lower.

Good! In the Third World War scenarios I am piddling with aircraft seem to be taking ridiculous casualties from ground fire. I think it would be very good to see those casualties go down considerably.

After applying the patch the Help->About... dialog says someting like ***Huge Map Edition*** - did it do that before?
Haven't played since TOAW I, I recall that a special version (opart300.exe I think) had to be used for the larger scenarios. Does the same apply to TOAW III?
On a similar note, the first page in the About dialog is shown for what seems like half a second, before the credits starts rolling - would it be possible to extend this time, I hardly have the time to read it more than a line at a time [:)]

There is only the "Huge Map Edition" available in TOAW III. That's because we did away with the old Opart (100) and are only using the Opart 300 derived version. On the issue of reading the about text, that quickly gets buried by the credits, here's my suggestion.

Open about, read first line, watch the credits, find someone involved with TOAW III, send that person a thank you PM.
Open about, read second line, watch the credits, find someone involved with TOAW III, send that person a thank you PM.
Open about, read third line, watch the credits, find someone involved with TOAW III, send that person a thank you PM.
Open about,...well you get the picture...[;)]
