New Projects
I was wondering if there are any plans for other games based on ghr COG engine. I think a game on the Americian Civil War would be a good follow on to COG. I don't think there has been a good Stratagic game on the ACW since, well maybe never.

RE: New Projects
I agree the American civil war would be great for this.

Read on the GGWAW forum that the ACW game will be based on that engine. http://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=1077306
Don't care much for that but this engine would make a much better choice...IMHO anyway.

RE: New Projects
At least it will be one month per turn, not three. I won't play GGWaW at all, with the three-month turn. I thought that was a huge design mistake.

Yeah, I agree. I don't care for the game much. Not that its a bad product just not my cup of tea.
If they would allow naming of units and include container units like COG, plus one month turns and then you got something.

Thanks for the link. I would still like to see a ACW version of COG, but I'll take a look at the GGWAW version when it comes out.
Perhaps if there was enough noise about COG(QCW) on the forum something might happen. How about some noise folks?
RE: New Projects
We do have a sequel product planned. Some of the features or design changes we've implemented are:
* Brigade level for units.
* Allow for some control of setup at the start of detailed combat.
* At the start of detailed combat, make an Initiative Check based on the stats of generals. Winner of the initiative check gets to pick terrain types he wants to fight in.
* At the start of detailed combat, make a Scouting Check based on the types of units in the combat. Winner of the scouting check gets to try a "Scouting Action" against the other side: such things as Raid Supplies, Sneak Attack, Avoid the Battle, etc.
* For military groups, keep track of a Logistical Staff and Command Staff rating that determines the movement, C&C, and supply capabilities of each military group.
* For brigades, introduced a Strategic Supply rating, a Strategic-Level morale rating called "disposition", renamed the old morale to "quality", and added a weapon type stat for each unit. Also, brigades may have up to two different "attributes" and two different "special abilities" -- which represent access to particular equipment, personnel, expertise, or training.
* Promotion and demotion of generals.
* Added a "Command" rating to generals. Generals also have an expanded role maintaining disposition and helping the training of units on the strategic level. On the detailed combat level, generals have a few new things to do, like prevent units from panicking and keeping units in-command.
* Added "Green", "Yellow", and "Red" Zones to detailed combat. Green Zone is normal; yellow and red zones represent areas where enemy units makes C&C with brigades difficult.
* Added about 30 game setup options so that players can customize the complexity level of the politics, military, supply, and economy.
* Enhanced fog-of-war at the strategic level. Clicking on a stack of units brings up a "scouting report" that gives only an approximate tally of enemy units based on the scouting values of units in adjacent provinces versus the scouting value of enemy units in the vicinity.
* Expanded the options for developing provinces economically.

Great [&o] any chance of road maps for campaigns[:-] Sounds like the 4 battles Quad Ligny Quatra Bra Wavre and Waterloo. By Avalon Hill, that was brigade level (anyone want the secret of how to win with the french, its swap Ney and Grouchy on the first turn).[:@], Ok I'm getting annoying now. Best of luck, I had despaired of anyone producing the Holy Grail a first class Napoleonic Strategy game, including all the elements. Look at Cossacks Two they even failed to produce a playable wargame.

Sorry, don't know what you mean by 'road maps'.
We've discussed doing a 'play famous battles in hexwar' type expansion. (both for CoG and our current mystery project) It would be a series of HW battles, and at the end you get a score. Could play vs computer or human opponent. Is that what you mean?

RE: New Projects
Road Maps. Just equates to the style of the Strategic map, Roads, such as they were in the 19th century dictated the shape of campaigns. But a detailed functioning strategic map of europe roads and all, that armies can maneuver across is pretty much fantasy. Hence my [:-] smiley.

Hello EB, very nice to here about the setup and other changes coming to detailed combat bravo

Eric and Pixelpusher (the latter out of modesty) neglected to say that another prominent feature of our next project is some damned fine graphics, in terms of the interface and both the strategic and hex maps, and those thingies that move around on the maps.
Without giving away too much, I'll just say that the name of the war that is the focus of our next project has the letters 'a' and 'r' in it.

Aw shucks!
Yeah, it is looking pretty good so far.
I'm particularly proud of the new HW gfx. The trees and seasonal effects are particularly snazzy. The main map looks real good, too.
RE: New Projects
hopefully some of this will be backward compatible to Crown.. sure could use some of these changes

You have obviously never seen the Errol Flynn version of General Custer. There was a English Ex army major fighting for the Union.[;)]

RE: New Projects
In response to Pixelpusher, I'll further narrow things down by stating that since he has prepared snow/ice hexes for detailed battles that might occur in winter the war in question, sadly, will not be the War of Jenkins' Ear.
