CHS 2.01 Liberator IV range

Post by MkXIV »

Hi,

The range of the Lib IV is only 8/11 instead of 11/14 like the other B-24's did the Lib IV really have a shorter range then the B-24J?

Thanks

CHS has always had a reduced range for the Lib VI, as well as the stock scenarios, but I don't know why that is. The Liberator VI was basically a B-24J or H, I believe, so I see no reason for a reduced range, especially since many of these were used in Coastal Command for long range patrols. I will set the range the same as the B-24J, unless someone has a valid reason why its range is reduced vs the B-24J?

While I have increased Allied bomber ranges generally from CHS (except where they were reduced!) - the Liberator should not be regarded as identical in British and American forms. This is doctrinal and there are differences in the way the planes were operated and equipped. Further - this from Black Mamba - Coastal Command bombers are NOT the same as those used in PTO. I used data from RAF Aircraft Since 1914 - and came up with 1042 minutes at 190 knots for the Liberator IV variant of interest. This contrasts with with 1193 minutes at 190 knots for the B-24J - operated to US standards. Both in aircaft and ships the Brits were more conservative - and felt we were somewhat reckless about things like stability and reserves.
