Minimum system requirements

Post by Okimaw »

For the moment, I'm stuck with an antique machine from 99, HP 4440. It's only running 333mhz, 64 mb ram, and 400mb free space after installation(I did upgrade to direct X requirements). So far so good, converted Decision in the North and did one pbem turn. Other than that have't done much besides kick the tires and peek under the hood. What kind of problems could I run into while I'm at tis low operating capacity?

You probably should turn off the sound. I'm going to rework the sound library, but for now, it's a bit of a memory hog.

The editor may be a bit slow too, I'd be careful with it.

Other than the obvious slowness, that's it. The Graphics and Sound library are the only things that allocate memory, so you should be fine.

If you can scrounge around and find some more memory, that's going to really help.

Thanks Ralph. I don't plan on doing much with the editor so that will be fine. I'd like to uninstall ACOW but I'm in a tournament and I'd probably have some people pretty pissed if I withdrew. Maybe for more space I'll take off my anti virus

Make sure that you turn off the sitrep and movies features in the advanced game options. Especially the movies, otherwise you will load up your available hard drive space in no time...

Done, I noticed that right away when I started playing. I've been playing with the sound off and the game is actually pretty fast all things considered. I miss the sounds of explosions and jets roaring over head but that can wait a while

Just an update. I now find that the game freezes when I play the PO, pbems are going fine. The upgrade I'm getting should take care of that. So for now it's

EDIT I am now on a pentium 4, 1.6 ghz, 512 ram, 40gig HD, running with the sound and movies on. My plan for global domination is now in motion
