I'll never agree to this not bombing Pearl Harbor ever again. I did once and it just made no sense.

That's right, but at least the BB are out of action for months.

For the first 6 months of the war, the subs are more important as the American BB's are useful for....[&:][&:]
I had one PBEM and the lost of the BB's did not hurt nearly as much as those subs and having KB marching around the SRA after wiping out Manila was not a pretty sight.[&o][&o]

The only drawback to historical at Pearl is if KB hangs around for a few extra days and makes sure at least 1/2 the BB's are sunk.[:D]

Hung around Manila a few more days, sunk an AS and one nameless ship of some sort. I slipped a sub into Pearl and sunk a DMS. [:'(] Landings in the normal and few not so normal vacation, err enemy held areas. Spotted POW and Repulse on their way towards Palembang [:-]

BB Prince of Wales, Bomb hits 4
BC Repulse, Bomb hits 1

Lost on 1 Kate and 13 damaged

Since this might be a community effort, ie myself and Stephen reading, no stratgety will be discussed until after it happens. [X(][:'(]

As too attacking Manila, I tried something different, not expecting to sink all those subs.[X(]

In my game against Graycompany he sunk at least one, IIRC and the Arizona was at 98% damage. SHe might as well have sunk.

Pauk is eggaerating just a wee bit. [;)]

From what I've read of AARs (and my experience), it's closer to about 1/8 games you get -0- sunk results on PH from on turn 1. It certainly -can- happen (to not sink anything). But then again, in my game vs. Erstad, he sank 4x BBs, and it wasn't because he stuck around for a second day.

Luck is just a pendulum. Sometimes it's in your favor (4x BBs sunk), and sometimes it isn't (none sunk).

Actually, I'd be curious to see if there was a (serious) impact on the POINTS by attacking Manilla. I think non-capital ships are greatly over-valued. Most transports are worth more than DDs, and are even worth more than some CLs(!). If you sink a bunch of small ships at Manilla on Turn 1, how does that compare to the ~400 points that is normally scored at PH (2x BBs) on Turn 1.

I'm just curious.

And for the record, I have allowed for the possability of a Manilla attack in PBEM games.

hi, how many PBEM games started to get results as you've described? The luck have nothing with that. It's a famous Gary Grigsby dice roll which is responsible for pathetic PH results[;)]

I started 8 games - and in none of them single BB was sunk.
[:-]

oh, we are already hijacking AAR - sorry Scott[:)]

Hi Pauk,

I don't think it's in the dice rolls per se. It's the way the ports work to almost magically save ships. The same thing happened when I sent the "American KB" to Truk against the AI in 43. At a level 9 port it is next to impossible to sink a capital ship. You may send them all to 99% sys damage, but to actually sink them is pretty much impossible. The result after 1 week of bombing from US carriers and massive allied air from Rabaul. 1 CV and 2 CA sunk, 4 CV sys 99%, 4 BB sys 99%

The results were around 6 more ships sunk. [:'(][X(] Total of 41 ships confirmed sunk to The Rising Sun Empire's lone ship. I thought we lost a couple more but were not confirmed as of Dec 11, 1941.

It seams a couple of my carriers are magnets for planes and their primative bombs. Case in point [:'(][:D]
