I thought the 6" mortars were supposed to represent suicide bombers?

AH I see. Didnt know that. What I get for not reading all of the info.

I understand why the creator of the original scenario did what he did. Is also the "Roadside bombs" that he used recoiless rifles for the effects of the bombs.

Hmm should I tell the story as bombs going off or keep the morter angle?

Any input ?

I think you should definitely use the suicide bomber/roadside bomb angle. That's the realistic view, more's the pity...

Yeah thought about it and it will make for a more effective AAR. Is much more dramatic to report about sucide bomber attacks than simple morter attacks.

Changing the back posts to update to this.

Change of pace here

-------------------------------------------------

British zone Basra. 3 PM Oct 10th 2007

In a small dingy house was a meeting between an Iranian Officer and members of Ansar Al Islam. Outside watching the meeting were members of that group.

"Hassiem I do not trust this Iranian." spoke one insurgent

"It is Allah's will. The Iranian is promising us much support today." replied another.

The first spoke. "And what support can those far away in Iran give us today ?"

The reply came. "He says watch the sky. Fire will come from the north."

In downtown

On the Euphrates river in downtown Basra the bridge was guarded by TF Rake. A contingent of New Zealander Engineers.

Image

Lt Reginald McGrew was leading an inspection of the bridge. His group of New Zealander Engineers were charged with fixing and defending the nearby bridge over the Euphrates.

Image

As he inspected the bridge Lt McGrew heard small arms fire erupt from downtown Basra. He knew there was a nearby company sized contingent of the new Iraqi Army.

A firefight had broken out between the Iraqi army and a group of about 90 insurgents. The Insurgents were firing 82mm Morter fire into that area of Basra.

Lt McGrew order his troops to man thier posts. Small arms fire started to strike the New Zealander postions.

Frantic calls for help started to come into the Engineers command post from the Iraqi troops. Lt McGrew started to form up a team to go to help them when a load explosion hit the east side of the Euphrates.

"What happened over there ?" McGrew asked a nearby engineer pointing to the smoke rising out to the east.

"Thought it might have been a car bomb but it was very sudden. the trooper replied. "Wait what is that sou...."

Small dark objects filled the sky from the east. They were incoming Scud missiles fired from miles away in Iran. They were directed by and Iranian forward observer working along side the Iraqis.

Image

"Get under cover men !" Yelled McGrew as explosions rocked the area from the missiles. About 2 dozen scuds hit the area doing damage but no casualties.

Image

The firefight between the Iraqi Army unit and the insurgents grew less and less. Finally a voice raised up calling out to the New Zealanders in broken English..

" Lay down your arms ! The Iraqi collaborators have surrendered ! You Brits dont stand a chance !"

A voice from one of the New Zealanders rose up in challenge. "We're not Brits you bloody Twit ! At least know its the Zealanders who are kicking your arse !"

The terrorists sprayed the Engineer's position with automatic fire. The Engineers replied by shooting at terrorist's positions. they used their prime mover to block the road to the bridge.

By nightfall the firing stoped. The terrorist went into hiding leaving the Zealanders stubbornly holding on to the bridge.

In the end 18 terrorists were believed killed in the days firefight. 105 Iraqi Army soldiers had been killed or captured. The Zealanders lost only one armored jeep.

Umm....aren't Scuds going to be coming in with supersonic velocity? Like about mach 4? You aren't going to hear them until they've already hit and something travelling about 1200 metres per second and diving near vertically is unlikely to be seen either.

Still...cracking AAR! Keep up the good work.

Ah right. Originally I planed to have the soldiers interupted by the sounds of the explosions. Just thought the sight of incoming missiles would be more dramatic.

Watched too many holliwood movies.

Are the Iranians sitting still with their heavy units, or are they coming across the border on Day 1 as well?

Word in from other parts of iraq.

in Tikrit an Al Queda Cell and a suicide squad attacked a Tikrit Police patrol.

The Iraqi sucide bomber failed to detonate his vest and he fled. Subsequent mortar attacks from 2 82mm morters did destroy 1 Iraqi Police car.

There were no losses to AlQueda
-----------------------------------------

Fallujah

In Fallujah in the morning the same kind of attack as in Tikrit occured. This time the Suicide bomber did set off his vest destroying an Iraqi Police car. Subsequent attacks with morters and gunfire would clame a total of 3 terrorists and 3 police officers.

-----------------------
A big attack was against an Iraqi industrial site outside Falujah

Image

Estimated 90 terrorists attacked the site. They set off a car bomb at the front gate.

the car bomber and two other terrorists were killed. 6 iraqi secruity guards were killed chasing the insurgents off.

Image

-----------------------------

In the town of Najaf were two serious attacks.

The first attack was at noon. 90 Terrorists of Ansar Al Islam attacked an Iraqi police roadblock.

3 Insurgents were killed. 3 Police cars and 9 officers were killed or wounded.
----------------------

The Worst attack was later in the day. A scud attack from Iran began an attack on an Iraqi police station.

Heavy explosions rocked the station followed by an attack by an estimated 30 terrorists.

The terrorists overran the Station causing heavy damage. 45 police officers were killed or captured and 13 police cars and 10 police van were burned or destroyed. No losses were reported to the insurgents.

Image

Image
----------------------------

A final attack on the Najaf police occured later at night. Again another Police station was targeted.

Over 100 terrorists from Ansar Al Islam and Al Queda hit the station. The police were again overrun.

20 police cars, 10 police vans and trucks and 60 officers were lost. Again no reports of terrorists losses.

Problem Im having with this scenario is it seems that the designer really didnt want the coalition to win.

Most of the events are against the coalition. Add to it that the Iranian army is equipted with some very unique stuff is somewhat unrealistic.

I wouldnt mind the Iranians with old American equptment. But Im finding some very modern qestern equiptment in the Iranian arsenal.

I think the designer wanted play balance. Way to do that is for Victory locations that favor the insurgents not editing in a unrealistic TO&E.

Thinking of re editing the data and changing the map and equiptment and restarting.
