Great game, some small suggestions

RE: Great game, some small suggestions
Well, that has been on the wishlist for a while.
You can always run SM alongside the game and look up things in the estab while playing. That's what I did with COTA when I got started, since I was unfamiliar with a lot of the armor in the game.

Thanks for the good suggestions guys - and not an indecent one amongst them, so it must be true about us wargamers getting tame as we grow older. [;)]
Putting the Estab data into the game is not as simple as it looks. The ScenMaker uses standard MFC interface items while the Game uses a special customised GUI. This is definitely too big for a patch. While I am at it I want to go on the record here and say that our policy is to "fix things" in a patch and "add things" in a new game. So this item will be placed on the wish list for BFTB or one of the subsequent titles.
TT1040 - UI - Add estab data into game
The above is an entry in our Task Tracker database in which we record all the tasks we have to do. It's been on our list for a while now. Note the number is 1040 and we are currently up to item 2941. [:)]
Ditto for the AAR stats and unit stats. Both are excellent suggestions but will require the storage of extra data and a fair bit of work.
TT1766 - UI - AAR - add unit performance detail to AAR
TT2942 - UI - Unit Log - Add performance stats - like killed X enemy

Glad to hear it's on the wishlist [:)]
For TT9999 can we have a map mode option for a rotatable 3d map? [:D]
Note, although I'm joking - an option to do this (in addition to the 2d birds eye maps) would be great. Even if the unit icons aren't displayed - to check terrain, LOS, etc, this would be very cool.

Well it's funny you should say that...
...hey that got you excited didn't it? [;)]
Well actually that is a direction I would like to go but we need some $$$ in the bank first.

I'm for the 3D map...looks great. I can just imagine moving units around that baby. I wouldn't even care if the units were the 2D counter variety!
Hey, if I bought HTTR, would that opush your budget over the line where 3D maps could be integrated?

The maps in COTA are damn near perfect for me. The colour scheme is spot on. 3D would for me anyway start to make the game to damn tricky. HAvent played a 3D game yet where I havent had an awfully frustrating time moving around the map.

A company here in England recently cancelled a big conference they had organised in Scotland because the Scottish first minister (?) said he would be supporting Trinidad and Tobago!!

Thanks Dave, great news if these mods could be incorporated into the next operation.
Just had some fun with the Iraklion scenario, playing as the allies. Might try some of the greek mainland ones next. Also with this estab, does anyone plan on creating some AK scens ?

RE: Great game, some small suggestions
I may be in the minority, but I don't want more statistics - all I want to know is if I won the battle and how much I have left, not how much I have lost.[:D]
That is because the game for me is not an exercise in statistics but an exercise in strategy. Which is why I don't much like scenarios that are too static, with frontlines two units deep. For me the name of the game is maneuver. For example although Across the Dnepr is one of my favorite games, I have never played through a scenario of Korsun Pocket.
Statistics are useful but they shoudl be under the hood and personally the less I see the better. Who cares if the enemy motorcycle company was routed by my infantry or by my tanks?[>:]

I love stats. Its mainly for immersion. Great help in writing up AAR's aswell. With more stats you will beable to see which units preformed well and which didnt. At the moment you cant really tell that as you dont know how many casualties a unit caused.
henr5i more stats wouldnt effect gameplay in anyway. So you have nothing to worry about just ignore them.
Actually Ive just thought of something. How about at the end of the scenario your units are rated on how they preformed?

RE: Great game, some small suggestions
wodin,
And on what basis would you rate them, casualties inflicted v casualties suffered?

RE: Great game, some small suggestions
Good question.
I can even see it being different for the attacker and defender. In the end it would have tobe very abstract there for really defunct.
Even different untis. The SS I suppose casualties would be ignored and you'd judge by casualties inflicted. Though losing more men than killing isnt that good either.
Maybe a ratio between the two.
Actually scrap the idea its a bad call;)
