Small last name problem.

Post by Cringer »

Was hoping the Mc names could be fixed. In my fictional league they always come up with a lower case letter after the Mc.

Mcadoo instead of McAdoo

Mckinney instead of McKinney

So on and so forth. Always this way with all Mc names.

You can always go to the player card and edit the names.  I just edit them all team by team in the first series I play them during the year.  The O names have problems too Oconnell instead of O'Connell.

Yeah, editing is something that gets done in my game. I just would like to avoid having to do that if possible.

Yeah, I'm utterly in favor, Cringer - its an annoying and time-consuming thing to go correct them, which I wind up doing every time I start up a new game. [:(]

Is there any way to edit the file that the fictional names are created from?  If not, can this kind of thing be added to the XML file in the same way that the college names and weights are editable?

Something like this:

<FIRSTNAME weight="10">Tom</FIRSTNAME>
<FIRSTNAME weight="20">Brian</FIRSTNAME>
<FIRSTNAME weight="30">Michael</FIRSTNAME>
.
.
<LASTNAME weight="50">Brown</LASTNAME>
<LASTNAME weight="75">Jones</LASTNAME>
<LASTNAME weight="100">Smith</LASTNAME>
etc...

I think they're compiled into the executable - so if you wanted to go down that route it would take some mad hex-editor skills, and you'd lose your work every time Shaun released a new version.

Ah, okay. Not a big deal, but I know there are some people out there that like to customize the kinds of names they would see. BBPro has the ability (through a 3rd party utility) to edit the names available during player generation. I've used it to increase the variability of the names generated from that engine and also to increase the amount of Latin American names generated. Would be cool to have that ability here in Puresim, but not a big concern.

Oh, I fully agree - I'd love the ability to be able to adjust the weightings so that my dead-ball fictional association doesn't get overrun with Hispanic players, to prevent female players prior to 2007, or to simulate the Japanese leagues without having to edit every player's names by hand.

I'm not sure its 'top of the list' by any means, but I'm sure its on Shauns 'perfect baseball simulation' list. [:D]
