Suggestion: Human Manager Getting Ejected

Post by KG Erwin »

A suggestion for those of us who manage every game : you're in a tight situation in the 7th, and out of the blue, a message appears -- "(your team's) manager ejected for arguing with umpire! "

The game then finishes on auto-sim, and no further human input is allowed. All you can do is watch the PSPN-cast play out the remainder of the game.

Of course, the chance of this happening would be very small, but this bit of uncertainty could add another touch of realism to the in-game managing experience.

This might only happen once or twice per season, but what if it occurred during a pivotal game? [X(]

I agree it is a very cool feature (I remember it being a favorite of mine from Earl Weaver Baseball) but for the manger to get throw out Shaun would need to introduce the concept of blown calls (the manager would have a random chance on coming out on a close call, whether it was a blown call or not (I belive that was the way EWB handled it, in Tony Larussa you would see the play called and could choose to come out an argue it).

It would be a great thing to see, but there are probably more pressing matters (Multiplayer options, Strategy options, and more actual baseball plays).

Just my 2 cents though....

There are tons of things I would rather see worked on/improved, then time spent putting this in.

Well, I suppose we should try to prioritize the most essential ideas, as it's difficult to get these sorted out with the way the forum is laid out.

My fault on this one.  Suggestions should go into the Beta Forum.

It is a great idea, and a big part in baseball (you see 1-3 blown calls in the better games, I've seen quite a few more when the umps are having an off day). Managers Arguing and getting thrown out are a part of the game as well, I just think more feature allowing people to manage games (ala Multiplayer mode) should be focused on first before adding options that have less overall game impact and would only be currently available in Single Player Mode.

I do find the concept intriguing though [:'(]

I hadn't though much about multi-player, but I'm now considering it.

It has the potential to be a game-killer, honestly. Seventh game of the world series, you've been working towards it all season and you're really into it... then you get thrown out in the third inning through NO fault of your own, AND see your assistant manager completely muck it up...

If you came up with a bit more to it - an 'argue call' button, with pros and cons, one of the cons being potential ejection and possibly even suspension from future games - that might be more game-like. (Its that, or you have to offer a 'turn it off' option.)

Like others, I'd find this pretty low on 'the list'.

As always, I agree with you, Amaroq.  I just toss ideas out as part of the continual brainstorming session we have here.  [;)]

I don't mean to stomp on your idea!

It would take some refining, is all. I could imagine it playing in with 'manager personalities' in the AI - some AI managers being more likely to get tossed, but also more likely to inspire the troops, other AI managers being more staid...

No problems, Amaroq. I love the game as it is -- this was just a trivial "icing on the cake" thing. Frankly, I don't see any game-breaking issues remaining. Others may hold different views, though.
