WITP Utility
Anyone know where this went to? I didn't see it at spooky's site. 1.006 was the latest version.
It saves all reports and in sub folder beneath the save gave folder. Very useful!

The URL from Bodhi's sig was: http://witputio.ireiwa.com/files/WitPUtility.zip
edit: but I just tried it and got a page not found error. Give me a little bit, I think I have a zip copy somewhere.

RE: WITP Utility
I have a copy of it...the version above. I was just wondering if it has been replaced by a better version or something else. I was surprised it wasn't on Spooky's site.

Ah, no Bodhi lost interest so the last version is, I think the one I have.

RE: WITP Utility
No, that's the latest version. Bodhi got fed up with bugs and game problems I believe and stopped working on it. He responded to a thread about the utility a while back and may resume working on it now that it appears the major bugs have been stomped, but that's not certain.
Any rate, for those who do want a copy I found my zip file and uploaded it to FileHD: http://dl1.filehd.com/download.php?get=677659764

RE: WITP Utility
I used Bhodi's most excellent utility on my old PC. I can't install it on my new machine because it requires .NET Framework V.1.1. However, I have already installed .NET V.2. Does anyone know if I can run both at the same time? Or do I have to uninstall V.2 before I can install an older version?

RE: WITP Utility
I have NET framework 1.1, 1.1 hotfix, and 2.0 all installed. I can run WitPUtility with no problems.
RE: WITP Utility
Yes, after installing V.1.1 it works for me, too. Thanks for letting me know, Nomad.

RE: WITP Utility
So what does the Utility do?
RE: WITP Utility
From the manual:
IMO especially useful is 2): the utility loads a map and lists the different reports. Clicking on a specific report centers the map on the corresponding hex. Furthermore, you can look up older reports, too. Invaluable for keeping tracks of enemy subs - at least it was invaluable: I heard that 1.8 added several new sub sighting messages which the utility cannot handle.
The old thread is here: Link
The WITP Utility/File Manager has four main functions: 1) automatic archiving of game save files and/or intel/operations/combat reports, 2) visual display of intel/operation/combat reports and other data useful in gameplay, 3) scenario base information, including inter-base distances and estimated travel time and ETA for task forces, and, 4) export of scenario database files as CSV files.

So what does the Utility do?
Say, for example, your attention suddenly turns to a new target. You now want to invade Rabual...and you could have swore you remember a report of only 19,000 troops on the island. But maybe that was saipan instead. You just aren't sure. And at the time you weren't preoccupied with Rabual...so you didn't remember the report. That's where this utility kicks in.
It also is very attractive and user friendly...very slick.
Worr, out
RE: WITP Utility
Like worr said, I think it's best feature is the ability to stack the SigInt reports for you. If you take the time to load them all into the utility, you can click on a location (say Rabaul), and it'll give you all old SigInt reports for that location in date decending order if you choose, and you can see what units are there, and if force levels are increasing/decreasing.
It also plots all those "radio transmissions detected at x,y" on the map for you. Good stuff. Over time, it paints the most frequently used convoy routes.
Don't PBEM (as Allied) without it!

RE: WITP Utility
Wow no wonder you guys are so good keeping this thing a secret. Just tried it but I have a question. I played hooky from work yesterday and was able to put out some 5 days on my AI game. Anyway, I manually save my games so when I was done and went to check out the info on the Utility, It had missed some three days. So do you have to go into the Utility after each turn to load the reports??? I didn't find the need to look at as far as where I am at in my game after each turn but I was curious to see a few turns on there. [&:]
RE: WITP Utility
Yep.. You've gotta let the utility run after each turn. But, the benefit far outway the cost. Bring up the utility and let it run in the background when you kick up WitP. Then after the turn is complete, minimize WitP (Alt/Tab), and run the utility. Read the data, and back to work. It also give you some handy operation intel. CV Shokaku spotted.. and the indicator is Rabaul, or whatever. Great handy tool to do the clerical work of fighting a war.

RE: WITP Utility
RevRick's right, you want to have the Utility running while the game is executing turns. I've found the easiest way to deal with it is to just put a .bat file on my desktop that starts both. One double-click and I'm off and running.

The utility's absolutely brilliant - don't go out without it!
Shouldn't that be "don't go to war without it!"?
