A thought for getting more players..

Post by Plodder »

I was just thinking before that once the HTTR scenarios are updated for COTA and beyond,HTTR the game itself will probably be fairly irrelevant as you will just be able download the scenarios anyway. So why not have HTTR become the new demo?I intend to give my copy away to anyone who'd like to have a go once all the scenarios are converted.Anyone else thinking the same way?

Panther have explained several times why there won't be a demo for CotA, and why there hasn't been one for HttR, specifically that they think the original RDoA demo lost them more sales than it gained. Turn based wargames couldn't get into it in the generally short time you spend with a demo, while 'standard' RTS players found it wasn't Command and Conquer:WW2 at all and roundly renounced it as "crap", or words to that effect - while I distinctly recall.

I think circumstances have changed somewhat now, but even so I think HttR in its entirety is far too much to give away. CotA refines the system, sure, but Market Garden will remain a much more 'popular' scenario for casual gamers, and it wouldn't surprise me, after the initial CotA rush, if HttR kept selling almost as many copies as CotA... downloadable scenarios or not. And I can see an awful lot of players enjoying a free HttR but not bothering with CotA.

I haven't kept up to speed with CotA (been playing other stuff), so I didn't know that the scenarios could be/are being ported over. Are Panther/Matrix OK with that, specifically the 'download' bit? I recall some other publishers have got rather pissy about such situations in the past for understandable reasons.

You're right.[:)]I really worded that one wrong.Demo was probably the wrong word.Let me try that one again..Once the HTTR scenarios are converted and available for download(which might actually be a while,it's still not completely confirmed that you can with COTA),HTTR will be for us essentially obsolete, so why not give our copies to someone you know who wouldn't normally buy it?

LOL.. sorry mate, totally misunderstood you. Yes, that's a great idea if/when the scenarios are available via CotA.
